3. THREE STATES OF PROTECTION
Personnel Protection from harmful agents within the
cabinet
Product Protection to avoid contamination of the
samples.
Environmental Protection from contaminants contained
within the cabinet.

4. HEPA FILTER( High Efficiency Particulate
Air filter)
HEPAfiltertraps99.97%ofparticlesof≥0.3µmindiameter.
ThisenablestheHEPAfiltertoeffectivelytrapallknown
infectiousagentsandensurethatonlymicrobe-freeexhaust
airisdischargedfromthecabinetand/orrecirculatedinthe
worksurface.

8. CLASS 1 BIOLOGICAL SAFETY CABINET
▪Provides personnel and environmental protection.
▪Safe for work using agents requiring Biosafety Level
1, 2 containment. (Low to moderate risk biological
agents).

10. CLASS 2 BIOLOGICAL SAFETY CABINET
▪Provides personnel, product and environmental
protection.
▪Safe for work using agents requiring Biosafety Level 1, 2
or 3 containment. (Low to moderate risk biological
agents).
▪There are four types (A1, A2, B1, and B2 ) of Class II
BSCs.
▪The main differences between the types are the ratio
of air exhausted from the BSC to the air that is
recirculated within the BSC, and the type of exhaust
systempresent.
▪About 90% of all biosafety cabinets installed are Type
A2 cabinets.
