The Bobo Doll Experiment was a name given to a group of experiment which was conducted by Albert Bandura in 1961 and then re-visited back in 1963, the experiment revolved around children’s behaviour after watching adults model act aggressively towards a Bobo Doll. There are were different variations of the experiment which the most notable one was see the adults getting rewarded, get punished, or experience no consequence for beating the bobo doll. These experiment all contributed to Bandura’s Social Learning Theory. The social learning theory claims that people learn through observing, imitating and modelling. It shows that people learn through other ways than being rewarded or punished. It can also be done through seeing someone be rewarded or punished. What is the Bobo doll experiment?

3. The Bobo Doll experiment consisted of 32 girls and 32 boys aged between 3 and 6 which where put into two groups. One group watched adults play with the doll in an appropriate manner and play nicely whereas the group 2 observed adults treating the dolls aggressively and violently. Group 1 was then let into the same room as the first set of adults and they played with the toys and the doll nicely and appropriately whereas group 2 treated the dolls as they saw the adults treat them, the children in group 2 treated the dolls aggresively , they punched,threw and some pulled them apart. 4. So how does this effect the media industry? Violence has been a hot topic concerning influence over children and their behaviour. There have been a variety of children influenced by video games and violent movies and conducted some horrific violent acts. One game which is widely known and has had some bad press over the years is Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto is a game revolving around violence in a fictional city Los Santos and throughout this game there are missions which require killing someone or a group of people, some say this game shouldn’t be on the market and shouldn’t been sold full stop. But some say that parents shouldn’t buy their kids games which will effect them mentally and encourage them to do violent acts, there are a variety of reasons people think games and films should be rated better or have more requirements for you to buy the game/ film or see it.
