Chapter-1 Breakfast time In chapter one, he talks about his favorite breakfast that is, a fried egg, two or three buttered toasts, a bacon or fish pickle. He says that he is lean and hungry, talks about a leopard who entered a hotel in Mussoorie and at last British Raj.
CHAPTER-2 ON THE DELHI ROAD In this chapter, Ruskin Bond travel from Mussoorie to Delhi, he talks that he like travelling in car as he could see the road, farm and other beautiful things. One thing that made him tensed was, he got a driver who drove the car very fast that he thought there could be an accident. After that he says a little about taxi driver.
CHAPTER-3 COLD BEAR AT CHUTMALPUR In this chapter, He first tell that Chutmalpur isn’t a good place to retire. He talks that there are good crafts that are done in Chutmalpur like bangles of lac, wooden art crafts etc. He even talks about Cautely’s Canal that was built in 1825 and the success and exception. After that he talks about. A Jungle Princess who was her friend when Ruskin Bond was 7-8 years old.
CHAPTER-4 THE KIPLING ROAD This chapter indicates that, This road was built in 1900. This road was built for people who travel from Rajpur to Mussoorie. After that he talks a little about the road. Then he talks about institution of St George’s College, who’s principal was Rev W. Biggs who told Ruskin Bond about the Kipling road. Then he talkes about how Kipling road improved itself. Then he starts a story about Kim and the Lama. That is very very long!!!
CHAPTER- 5 AT THE END OF ROAD In this chapter the author introduce that we should choose our companions carefully otherwise we could get into trouble, and it had happened with him several times. When he was coming their way down, they met a party of Delhi University who were on the same trek and asked him to join them. After that he talks a little about companions. He then talks about some of his companion like Partap. Then he talks about a place named Najibabad and Nazibabad. After that he takes about Himalayan Villages, fox and the funniest part the bears. He even faced a bear.
CHAPTER-6 SACRED SHRINE ALONG THE WAY At first, he says that he could tell that the place was good or not for him before arriving at the place. He eve gave an example of Pauri and Nandprayag. After that he talks about his road journey till Nandprayag. He even says a lot things about how his journey went in Nandprayag. After that he tells some difficulties he even met a person who wants to go Mussorrie with him. He even talks about The Magic of Tugnath, in ths he talks about the beauty of nature like the lakes and mountains that is over 12,000 feet and some animals.
CHAPTER-7 TREES BY MY WINDOW In this chapter he says that he lives about 10,000-12,000 feet above and then talks about the view out of his window that is, beautiful tree on which there was a nest of a woodpecker. Once when the window was open the woodpecker came and took some non-vegetarian food as she was a pure non-vegetarian. Ruskin bond even had some nuts that were taken by some crows.
Chapter-8 LET’S GO TO THE PICTURES This is a pretty long chapter about cinemas, the authors says that his love for cinemas began at age 5-55 as after 55 all his favorite cinemas were built into mall and shops. He tells about his famous cinemas that are: Odeon, Orient and much more. He liked cinema because of the darkness and when he is in that darkness, he goes in another world. ‘Watching films on TV and cinema is a whole lot of difference’ he says. He says that at mid 19 there were no popcorn but the use handle with corns or bhutas . After that he talks that when in intervals, they used to hear some playlist of song but, the only had 2-3 songs in the playlist so Ruskin Bond gave the playlist to the manager whose name was Mr. Suri, and he gave Ruskin Bond a free pass. So, when he went to London, he saw some comedy movies.
CHAPTER-9 SOME HILL STATION GHOST This chapter is a little scary if read it in night you won’t be able to sleep but there is something funny that is the author had given the ghost's name as ‘Bhoot Aunty’. This is a real story that has happened with the author he even mentions a case that happened with a security man. He tells about ‘ A Chakrata Hunting’ it was a hunting of ghosts the authors was saved but they really saw and experienced ghosts.
CHAPTER-10 THE YEAR OF KISSING AND OTHER GOOD TIMES ‘Seeds of the potato berries should be sown and adapted places by explorers of new countries’ the author says. He then talks about a commando named Captain Young he loved Irish potato and wanted to plant them but wanted to plant them but there was a problem that if had to plant them he would have to climb Himalaya that was 6000 feet above. He successfully did it then everybody started to obey him. After that he difference between Shimla and Mussoorie he tells both good and bad qualities. He then talks about picnics and station at that time. He then talks about Mr. Maxwell who married a Muslim girls who was 14 years old. He then continues talks about Mussoorie. He talks about what had bring him to Mussoorie, he talks about that he lived in Dehradun and Delhi and what did he did in that time. ‘Miss bean has done lot of progress, but she even fell’ the author says, something that Miss Bean focused on was education. In the end he talks about a letter and MR. Owen and then ends the chapter.
Chapter-11 RUNNING FOR COVER In this chapter he tells that, he does not like any gathering specially when he writes a poem or story or having an evening tea. He makes excuses like he isn’t well, but every person has a reply that they are a doctor. Once a family came and Ruskin Bond made the same excuse, they replied that we whole family is a doctor. The son introduced her sister who was a yoga expert she looked at the author stomach and said ‘ Need to do some exercise’ the author replies ‘ Yes’ she then says the author to come with her to Ludhiana. The lady of the family said that she wanted to win a booker price could he please promote the book. They then argue a little. After that he says that he likes the visitors who get him books written by them and ask him for opinion. He doesn't like when the people force him to tell the way of writing introduction or telling his way or writing he does it because at that time people could kill anybody if they didn't obey him. He then talks about some publishers. He hates to go in school as a chief guest. Mainly in this chapter the things he likes and don’t like while being a writer.
CHAPTER-12 PARTY TIME IN MUSSOORIE This chapter is the most funnies chapter, each line is written in such a way that you would end up laughing. This chapter talks about the author in parties. The most funnies thing is that the author throws plays at the people in party even the hostess make fun of him.
