Borsche’s test

TEST OF ALDEHYDE

2. AIM To confirm the presence of aldehyde or ketone in an organic compound.

3. MATERIAL REQUIRED Organic compound Borsche’s reagent burner Con H C l Pipette Ice water water

4. P rocedure STEP 1 A little of substance is added to 3ml of Borsche’s reagent.

5. STEP 2 The substance is boiled.

6. STEP 3 Concentrated HCl is added

7. STEP 4 The solution is cooled and add a small amount of water.

8. O bservation ORANGE PRECIPITATE IS FORMED

9. INFERENCE Presence of aldehyde or ketone is confirmed by this experiment.
