Bram stoker (8 November 1847 – 20 april 1912)

1) Abraham (Bram) Stoker was born in a small town near Dublin, Ireland. 2) Stoker suffered from a long childhood illness and spent his entire early childhood in bed. His mother used to tell him ghost stories. 3) Although he graduated with a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Trinity College, his passion was in the theatre, and he wanted to be an actor. In 1871, Stoker began writing theatre reviews for the Dublin Evening Mail. Later, he wrote short stories and novels.

4) Stoker married Florence Balcombe in Dublin. Then, they had one son, Noel. 5) While working at the Lyceum Theatre in London, Stoker continued to write. However, it was in 1897 that Stoker wrote his masterpiece and best-known work, Dracula . 6) Although he continued to write, none of his other works received the praise or popularity of Dracula. After suffering some strokes, he died on April 20 th , 1912.

dracula -the novel ‘ dracula ’ (1897) belongs to the gothic genre and is an epistolary novel: it tells its story through journal entries, diaries, letters, and telegrams written by the novel’s main characters. it is a story of an immortal vampire who feeds on the blood of humans and turns them into demonic vampires like him. the story takes place between england and transylvania in the castle of dracula . this vampire is an aristocrat and behind his terrifying appearance, he is refined.

dracula -the novel Bram stoker was inspired by king vlad tepes better known as vlad the impaler . vlad was born in transylvania in the 15th century and was known popularly as drăculea , meaning “son of dracul ”. he had bloody and sadistic methods that shocked everyone. stoker took his name and place of life to create dracula , which was the most popular literary work derived from vampire legends and became the basis for an entire genre of literature and film.

Themes in ‘ dracula ’

The FOUR main characters: DRACULA DRACULA is a cunning vampire who hides his true nature. He lives in a castle in Transylvania but goes to buy a house in London and does business with Jonathan Harker.

mina MINA is Jonathan Harker's fiancée and becomes a crucial member of the group fighting Dracula. She is also the object of Dracula's affection and is particularly important to the group's plans.

Jonathan harker JONATHAN HARKER is a young solicitor who is sent to Transylvania to help Dracula with legal matters, only to be imprisoned in the castle and become one of the Count's first victims. 

ABRAHAM VAN HELSING ABRAHAM VAN HELSING is a Dutch doctor with a broad knowledge of the supernatural who arrives to investigate the strange events and leads the hunt for Dracula.
