Overview CA Foundation consists of four papers. Two papers are subjective, and two are objective (MCQ-based). Exams are conducted offline at designated centers. Duration: three hours per paper.
Paper Division Paper 1: Principles and Practice of Accounting. Paper 2: Business Laws and Business Correspondence. Paper 3: Mathematics, Logical Reasoning, and Statistics. Paper 4: Business Economics and Commercial Knowledge.
Marks Distribution Each paper carries 100 marks. Total marks for the exam: 400. Objective papers include negative marking. Passing requires both sectional and overall criteria.
Evaluation Scheme Subjective papers are manually evaluated. Objective papers are computer-checked. Equal weightage is given to all four subjects. Accuracy and presentation play a vital role.
Passing Criteria Minimum 40% required in each subject. Overall aggregate of 50% across all papers is necessary. Failing one paper leads to failure of the entire attempt. Students can reattempt in the next cycle.
Negative Marking Applies to objective papers only. One-fourth mark deducted for each incorrect response. No penalty for unanswered questions. Encourages careful answering.
Exam Frequency Conducted twice annually: June and December. ICAI announces schedules months in advance. Multiple centers across India ensure accessibility. International centers are also available.
