Breast cancer 10/2/2025 8:47:06 PM 191

A breast cancer diagnosis is an automatic death sentence .

Breast cancer only affects older women.

If you have a risk factor for breast cancer, you're likely to get the disease

If breast cancer doesn't run in your family, you won't get it

Only your mother's family history of breast cancer can affect your risk

Using antiperspirants causes breast cancer.

Birth control pills cause breast cancer.

Eating high-fat foods causes breast cancer.

A monthly breast self-exam is the best way to diagnose breast cancer

I'm at high risk for breast cancer and there's nothing I can do about it

Risk factors Age From birth to age 39, your risk is 1 in 229. From age 40 to 59, your risk is 1 in 24. From age 60 to 79, your risk is 1 in 13. Personal history of breast cancer: Family history: Genetic alterations : Menstrual history: Race: Breast cancer in the United States occurs more often in white women than Latina, Asian, or African American women. But in women 40 and younger, African American women have the highest risk. Radiation therapy to the chest before you were 30 years old Breast density: Exposure to DES (diethylstilbestrol): Late pregnancy or no pregnancy :
