About This Presentation

DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY
SEMINAR ON-
“CANCER, TYPES AND
APPROACHES”
Presented by: Ayushi Sharma
M.Sc. Microbiology IV Semester

What causes cancer ?
•Cancer arises from the mutation of a normal gene.
•Mutated genes that cause cancer are called
oncogenes.
•It is thought that several mutations need to occur to
give rise to cancer
•Cells that are old or not functioning properly
normally self destruct and are replaced by new cells.
•However, cancerous cells do not self destruct and
continue to divide rapidly producing millions of
new cancerous cells.

•Benign Tumor- Do not spread from the site of
origin but can crowd out with surrounding cells
e.g. Brain Tumor.
•Malignant Tumor- can spread from the
original site and cause secondary tumor these
can block the Blood vessels, Gut, Glands and
Lungs.
Benign or malignant?

•Carcinomas
•Sarcomas
•Lymphomas
•Leukemia

TYPES OF CANCER

Current Cancer Analysis
•In 2006, Approximately 564830Americans
died of cancer According to US Reports.
•1.4 million new cases diagnosed till 2017.
•1/3 of cancers are related to poor nutrition,
physical inactivity, and obesity – preventable
causes.

There are over 200
types of cancer

Cancer realistic approaches
•Long term of work as of 60 hours in a week led to
Diabetes, Cancer and Heart Problems.
•Skin cancer ‘s most danger situation of can be best
treated with immunotherapy proved by Canadian
scientist ‘fegshe’ by research from 2011-2015 of
about 6662 patients case study .
•A new use of Tattoo ink can be utilised for skin cancer
by California university that is made of carbon
grafting ,indian ink or fluorescent dye through which
spots can be hidden, it can change colour.

Tumour Related Myth
and Fact
M-It is not the disease of children
F-but it can occur from children to the 20 years of age like no reason
vomit, unconsciousness can occur in it.
M-MRI and CT scan and mobile phones are reason
F-Radiation all the time may affect but healthy lifestyle can eradicate
M- simple tumour is not effective.if it is not touched
F- It can be but Tumour should be rectify as early as possible
M- All tumour are of same kind and are also death causing.
F- No, not all the tumour are of same kind having different symptoms
but, once tumour can be taken out from body can not harm
throughout the life.

Detecting Cancer
•The earlier the diagnosis the better the prospect for
survival
•Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
•Computerized axial tomography scan (CAT scan)
•Regular self-exams, and check ups

•Cancer support groups
•Cancer information workshops
•Low-cost medical consultation
•Increased government funding to seek cures
•Non Government Organization Works Actively
FIGHTERS AND
SURVIVORS

New Hope In Cancer Treatments
•Remove less surrounding tissue during surgery
•Immunotherapy
•Cancer-fighting vaccines
•Gene therapy
•Stem cell research
•Nanotechnology
