In April 1943, the State Bank of Ethiopia commenced full operation and acted as the central Bank of Ethiopia and had a power to issue bank notes and coins as the agent of the Ministry of Finance. Addis Ababa Bank S.C and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia were merged by proclamation No.184 of August 2, 1980 after the declaration of socialism in 1974.
