JOB DESCRIPTION Create safety procedures for workers who work near chemical reactions. Studies the manufacturing process of a new chemical in a laboratory. Find and fix problems with a manufacturing process of a new chemical. Outline the layout of machines and equipment. Perform research to improve the manufacturing processes of some chemicals.
WORKING CONDITIONS While chemical engineers work mainly in laboratories and offices, they may travel to industrial plants and refineries. Some travel to worksites or plants internationally. Almost all work full time Mainly hired by Architectural, Engineering, and related services.

EDUCATION & TRAINING Degree: You need a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Training: You will take part in classroom, laboratory, and field studies. You can also enroll in a five year program that leads to a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. High school studies: If interested, one should take sciences, such as chemistry, biology, and physics, and various math courses, like trigonometry, algebra, and calculus. Additional training: In NC, you can enroll to the NC School of Science and Math as a Junior. The Institute of Chemical Engineers also offers on the job training.
