2. Recent data indicate significant reduction
in deforestation in some countries
•Deforestation decreased by 8.4% in Indonesia in 2021–2022 compared to
the previous year and by 90% between the 1990s and early 2020s.
•Deforestation decreased by 50% in Brazil’s Legal Amazon in 2023
compared to 2022.
•Annual rate of deforestation in Africa decreased between 2016 –2019
and 2020–2022 in all subregions.

3. But climate change making forests more
vulnerable to stressors (wildfires and pests)
•In 2023, fires emitted 6 687 megatons of CO

•Considerable threats to forests by invasive and native pests and diseases
