Legal Disclaimer
All presentations, meetings, communications and initiatives undertaken by IIGCC are
designed solely to support investors in understanding risks and opportunities associated with
climate change and take action to address them. Our work is conducted in accordance with
all the relevant laws, including data protection, competition laws and acting in concert rules.
Participants in today’s event will not be asked for and must not disclose or exchange
strategic or competitively sensitive information. It is a foundational principle of how IIGCC
and its members work together that the choice to adopt guidance, best practice tools or
tactics prepared by IIGCC is always at the ultimate discretion of individual members based
on their own decision making. The aim is to provide information that can be used by asset
owners and asset managers, all of whom will have differing mandates and starting points
from which they make their own decisions. These materials serve as a guidance only. IIGCC’s
services to members do not include financial, legal or investment advice.

Currently investors look at NDCs to get clarity on long term decarbonisation targets, but NDCs
vary significantly in quality and detail across countries, and often lack sufficient information to
effectively guide investment decision-making…
‘We use mostly absolute
carbon reduction levels
objectives and developed
our own methodology to
assess ambition and
credibility of those
commitments’.
‘NDCs could be even more
influential but unfortunately
the current NDCs lack
strategic orientation and do
not provide information that
can directly inform and
catalyse private investment’.
How helpful are NDCs for investors?

44
Countries can attract the finance needed to achieve their climate and
development goals, beyond public finance sources.
Investors can better understand the policy landscape and investment
potential across sectors, to inform asset allocation and risk management.
NDCs could support dialogue between countries and financiers, to address
barriers and systemic risks and to co-develop investment opportunities.
NDCs can provide insights into the specific circumstances that shape a country’s
climate and development objectives, and how its targets respond to local needs.
