cell biology introduction

Slide Content

Cell biology

Cell biology- cover topics 1-shape 2-function 3-reproduction 4-chemestry of cell Cytology cover topics 1-shape and structure 2-chromosome 3-gene and genetic material

Largest cell ostrich eggs

Largest human cell –nerve cell Largest plant cell – fibres of ramei Smallest cell – mycoplasma

B. Characteristics of cells : 1) Contain highly organized molecular and biochemical systems and are used to store information 2) Use energy 3) Capable of movement 4) Sense environmental changes 5) Can duplicate (transfer genetic information to offspring) 6) Capable of self-regulation

Cells are small for 2 Reasons Reason 1: Limited in size by the RATIO between their Outer Surface Area and Their Volume.  A small cell has more SURFACE AREA than a large cell for a GIVEN VOLUME OF CYTOPLASM.  Reason 2: THE CELL'S NUCLEUS (THE BRAIN) CAN ONLY CONTROL A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF LIVING, ACTIVE CYTOPLASM.

What Do Those Parts Do?

1- classification of cell 2-details of prokaryotic cell and eukaryotic cell 3-structure and function of cell wall 4-cellular organells –cell boundrys 5-plasma membran -and their models and concept Next upcoming lecture topics
