Cell transport

Slide Content

Cell Transport Grade 7 • ISOCSEA Aligned

What is Cell Transport? Movement of materials in and out of cells Keeps the cell alive and balanced Two main types: Passive and Active Transport

Passive Transport No energy needed Moves from high to low concentration Examples: Diffusion, Osmosis

Diffusion Particles spread out until balanced Happens in gases and liquids Example: Smell of food in a room

Osmosis Special type of diffusion Movement of water through a membrane From high water to low water concentration

Active Transport Needs energy (ATP) Moves from low to high concentration Example: Root cells taking minerals

Passive vs Active Transport Passive: No energy, high to low concentration Active: Needs energy, low to high concentration Both keep the cell healthy

Check Your Understanding What is the main difference between passive and active transport? Give one example of diffusion. Why does active transport need energy?
