PerformanceFeatures
PositiveDisplacement:Theprincipleofcompressioninthistypeofcompressorsisbydecreasingthevolume.For
gases,asvolumedecreases,pressureincreasesknownascompression.
DynamicCompressors:Inthesecompressors,thegasesarefirstacceleratedi.e.velocityisincreased,thenits
madetoflowthroughincreasingcrosssectionarea,wherekineticenergyisconvertedintopressureenergyi.e.
pressureisincreased.
•DynamiccompressorsLessmaintenance
•Dynamiccompressorslowerefficiency.
Rule of Thumb:Dynamiccompressiontechnologyisbestsuitedforbaseloadrequirements,while
positivedisplacementcompressionisbettersuitedtovariableload.Forlargerflowsandvariabledemand
applications,acombinationofbothtechnologiesoftenhelpstoreachtheoptimalusageofcompressedair
whilesimultaneouslyreducingenergyconsumption.
