Learning Objectives 26 August 2025 4 At the end of the module, participants will be able to: Understand different demand generation and communication strategies and approaches for Hep B birth dose vaccine Understand gender inclusive demand promotion activities shaping maternal healthcare access, including facility births and Hep B- BD vaccination. Understand on how to develop and implement risk and crisis communication activities

Background 26 August 2025 5 Demand generation and communication activities play a critical role in improving caregivers' knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes toward the HepB- BD vaccine Since the vaccine is introduced into routine immunization programs, it is critical to reach all target populations with highly tailored, inclusive, and gender- sensitive demand creation and communication activities Gender sensitive demand generation is key to address gender related barriers at individual, community and institutional levels. Promoting facility delivery will be mandatory to increase vaccine uptake and timely vaccination

Demand Generation/Promotion strategies/Approaches 26 August 2025 6 The demand generation strategies/approaches outlined below should be implemented to achieve the expected programmatic results during HepB Birth dose vaccine introduction and roll out ✔ Advocacy ✔ Social mobilization and community engagement ✔ Program Communication

Advocacy/Sensitization workshop 1/3 26 August 2025 7 As HepB- BD vaccine is being given at birth within the first 24 hours of delivery, facility deliveries will be a key entry point to reach the newborn babies for this vaccine. Therefore, advocating for health facility deliveries should not be the responsibility of only the maternal health team but also the EPI team Advocacy on Hep B birth dose vaccine should be integrated with the routine immunization, programs and other RMNCH activities at national and sub national levels Advocacy platforms for Hep B Birth dose vaccine introduction should engage key decision makers, program leaders, practitioners, associations, councils, FBO, community representatives and other influencers aiming to create awareness and ger their support on implementation.

Advocacy Sensitization workshop 2/3 26 August 2025 8 Sensitization workshop for media professionals and hotline counselors, religious leaders, community plat forms, volunteers and other stake holders to increase their knowledge and awareness on Hep B birth dose vaccine The advocacy and sensitization workshops should be gender- inclusive to recognize that vaccinating a newborn child is the responsibility of both parents. Launch the introduction by engaging different higher officials, media and community representatives Advocate the vaccine by using national events like WPD& AVW

Program Communication, 1/2 26 August 2025 12 Strategic approach that guides what to share and how to communicate information and key messages about immunization benefits Helps for identifying, analyzing, and segmenting audiences with clear communication goals and objectives, and by providing them with relevant information and motivation Tailored and target- specific communication materials and messages will be developed in various local languages for diverse audiences, including caregivers, youth, individuals with co- morbidities, people with disabilities, religious leaders, IDPs, refugee communities, and other high- risk groups.

Good Communication Techniques, 2/2 26 August 2025 14 When communicating with caregivers about the HepB birth dose vaccine: Share simple information about who will receive the vaccine using ‘Triple A’ Acknowledge local challenges and show respect for community experiences, perspectives, customs and cultures member Encourage caregivers to share information learned about the Hep B birth Dose vaccine with other community members Interpersonal Communication- by using effective IPC skills including (skill of caring, skill of problem solving and skill of counseling)

Advise : Hep B birth dose vaccine and schedule 26 August 2025 16 The Hep B Birth dose vaccine is safe and effective For best protection the child should take Imediately after delivery with the subsequent three doses Administration of the birth doses and completeness of the vaccine schedule (completeness) Next vaccination session (when and where)

Alert: AEFI 26 August 2025 17 Common AEFIs like Mild soreness, erythema, induration, fatigue, fever, malaise, influenza- like symptoms but can be relieved with in one to two days. Rare AEFI like vomiting, diarrhea, irritability, abnormal liver function tests, rash, pruritus, urticaria Remind caregivers to return to nearest health facility if they notice any adverse events following vaccination

Arrange: Next visit 26 August 2025 18 Write date of the next visit to receive vaccine and child health services on vaccination card: Remind the caregiver: When to return with their child and the home- based record (vaccination card) Visit the health facility monthly to have their child weighed and examined, and to receive all needed vaccines and services To get the best protection children should receive all vaccines on schedule

Key messages for communicating with caregivers 26 August 2025 19 The Hep B birth dose vaccine is safe and Hep –B virus Start birth dose with in 24 hours of delivery and continue the whole vaccination schedule Some common AEFI include fever and injection site pain and swelling, but these are typically short in duration. For Any AEFI report to the nearest health facility should be there Next appointment and card retention Visit monthly to have their child weighed and examined, and to receive all needed vaccines and child health services

Social listening and community feedback 26 August 2025 20 The introduction of new vaccines often prompts increased community questions as well as the spread of rumors, misinformation, and disinformation. Social listening refers to the process of monitoring and analyzing conversations happening across social media and other communication platforms Community feedback involves actively engaging with communities to gather direct opinions and concerns about vaccines. A strong community feedback and social listening mechanism will help identify issues, address information gaps, mitigate rumors and misinformation

Social listening and community feedback… 26 August 2025 21 Key components of Social Listening and Community Feedback Collecting rumors, misinformation and disinformation through online and offline platforms Place rumor logbook for recording Prepare a response mechanism like preparing FAQ, panel discussions, social media platforms, etc. Capacitate hotline counselors to effectively address community concerns Utilizing community feedback loops, surveys, and studies will help highlight public perceptions and fears about vaccines, enabling timely and regular responses.
