Activity 1 Mixture Observation after stirring and mixing Heterogeneous or Homogeneous Separate after standing? Tyndall Effect? A (Sugar) Dissolved Homo No Yes B (Cornstarch) Did not dissolved Hetero Yes No C (Dirt) Did not dissolved Hetero Yes No D (Food color) Dissolved Homo No Yes E (Oil) Did not dissolved Hetero Yes Yes F (Milk) Dissolved (It does not actually dissolves) Hetero No No
Sample a Sample b Sample c Sample d Sample e Sample f No Yes Yes No Yes No Questions: Heterogeneous mixtures are mixtures which composition is not uniform throughout the mixture. While, homogeneous mixtures are mixture whose composition are uniform throughout the mixture The solute is the cornstarch and the solvent is the water
3. Suspensions are heterogeneous mixtures where solid particles do not dissolve in a liquid solution. Solution B (cornstarch) and Solution C (Dirt). 4. Colloids are heterogeneous mixtures whose particles do not dissolve but they go to 1-1000 nm in size thus it not separating when standing and filtration. Solution F (Milk) is a colloid. 5. Solutions are homogeneous mixtures solute particles completely dissolves in the solvent. Mixture A (sugar) and Mixture D (Food color)
6. The least dense would be the oil thus it floating on the water. 7. Solutions and colloids
Activity 3 List the five main points of Dalton’s Atomic Theory 1. All matter is made up of atoms 2. Atoms of the same element are identical 3. Atoms cannot be created, divided or destroyed 4. Atoms combine in simple whole-number ratios 5. During chemical reactions, atoms rearrange but no atoms are created, divided nor destroyed
Basic Laws of Matter 1. C 2. A 3. B Atomic Structure
Subatomic Particles Chemical Formulas 1. Simple/simplest 2. True 3 Arrangement/ bonds Particle Charge Location Proton Positive Inside the nucleus Electron Negative Outside the nucleus Neutron Neutral Inside the nucleus

Activity 5 As seen on the video, as the plunger of the syringe is pushed down it increases the pressure thus causing the volume of the balloon to decrease. While, if the plunger of the syringe is pulled in decreases the pressure causing for the volume to increase. Thus, the volume of the gas is inversely proportional to the pressure (Boyle’s Law) As seen on the video, when the liquid nitrogen (a cold substance) was poured into the balloon it caused for the balloon to be crumpled. It shows that as the temperature decreases the volume of the gas inside the balloon decreased. While, on the other video, as the balloon was putted on the boiling water inside the beaker, it caused for the balloon to increase in size. It shows that as the temperature increases the volume of the balloon also increases. Thus, the volume of the gas is directly proportional to the temperature (Charles’ Law).
QUESTIONS As the pressure of the gas increases as the volume decreases. The volume of the gas decreases when its cooled and when it is heated it increases.
