1.Chemical Vs Physical Change
Learning Objective To distinguish between a physical and chemical change by reversing a physical change
Lab Class Write todays date and write the topic- Physical and Chemical Change Lab Stick lab instructions in your book. Draw up a table 4 columns and 3 rows
What does it look like before the experiment? What does it look like during the experiment? What does it look like after the experiment? Salt + water Magnesium + HCl Your table should look like this
Copy this question in your book and answer them. One of the reactions you did today is a PHYSICAL change - meaning that it is reversible. The other reaction is a CHEMICAL change - meaning it is NOT reversible. 1. Explain which of the experiments you think is reversible and why.
1. Chemical Change A chemical change occurs when a new substance is formed.
Signs of a Chemical Change A gas have been given off There is a colour change There is a different smell Heat given out or absorbed Change cannot be easily reversed.
Physical Change Is not a permanent change A physical change is a change in matter that alters its form but not its chemical identity. The size or shape of matter often changes, but there is no chemical reaction
