2. themes and settings Beowulf is a medieval Anglo- Saxon epic poem set in present-day Denmark and Sweden where the mythological topos is embodiedbetween heroes and the monster.The main themes are heroism , loyalty and consequences of action,concept of inheritance and there are fantasy and supernatural elements

3. plot The legend of beowulf is marked by three confrontations against supernatural creatures . The first one against the ogre grendel who tormented the Danish kingdom , ruled by hrothgar , the second with grendel's mother , and the third , 50 years later at the succession to the throne of the kingdom of gaeti against a dragon who although defeated mortally wounds beowulf .

4. hrothgar hrothgar wealhþeow freaw esher Hrothgar King of the Danes, calls Beowulf to his aid to defeat the monster Grendel Esher Councilor of Hrothgar Freaw Danish princess and daughter of Hrothgar, must marry Ingled (prince of the Hathobards ) in order to resolve the feud between the two peoples.

5. monsters Grendel An ogre that has haunted the Danish kingdom for years. Mother of Grendel: An unnamed swamp witch (swamp-hag) bears down on the Danish kingdom seeking revenge for her son.

6. monsters The dragon: A powerful dragon guarding a great treasure. Beowulf fights him in the third, and final, part of the novel where though victorious he is mortally wounded.
