Definition Solutions are the binary mixture of two components solute solvent.

Based on the amount of solute .

Types of changes

Physical Change A physical change is one in which some of the physical properties ( colour, shape, state) of the substance undergoing change are altered temporary. The actual composition and mass of the substances remain unchanged and no new substances are produced. The substance is restored to its original state after this change. It is reversible in nature.

Examples of physical changes

CHEMICAL CHANGE A chemical change is one in which the substance undergoing change are transformed into new substance whose properties ( mass, composition) are entirely different from those of the original substance. The new substance cannot be changed back to the original substance. It is a permanent change. It is irreversible in nature.

Examples of chemical change Burning of wood Ripening of fruits Digestion of food Rusting of iron Burning of coal Souring of milk Heating of iron and sulphur powder.

QUESTIONS Sugar solution is given to you in two separate test tubes. In one test tube the solution is saturated, while in other it is unsaturated. What test would you do to identify them? Why physical change a temporary one? What do you expect to observe when a solution of potassium nitrate saturated at 343K is cooled to room temperature?
