exercise we can have more energy to to perform our daily chores)
3.How many vegetables has been mentioned on the song?
( There are about 16 vegetables being mentioned on the song)
4.Do you eat vegetables? What is your favorite vegetables based on the song?
(Yes ma’am, we eat vegetables I love eggplant, etc.)
(Indicator 1)
(TLE integration)
In your TLE subject you were taught how to cook different recipes right? Based from the bahay kubo
song, what are the different ingredients in making PINAKBET?
( Kalabasa, talong, sitaw, sibuyas, kamatis, bawang)
In your own idea, what is the importance of eating variety of vegetables?
( We need to eat variety of vegetables because there is no single food that contains all the nutrients
needed by our body )
5.Why is there a need for the food we eat to be broken down into smaller form?
(So that the nutrients from the food we eat will be absorbed in our body)
B. Establishing a purpose for the
lesson We will have a word search game. Do you know how to play the game?
( Answer may vary)
All you have to do is to connect letters in order to form a certain word. Words can be found horizontal
form, vertical form and slanting form. As soon as you’ve search a word you immediately come in front
and encircle the word. Those words are all parts of our body. Did I make my instructions clear?
( yes ma’am)
Follow-up questions:
1.What are the words you’ve search?
(Mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, anus, rectum.
2.Are all of the words you’ve search from the game familiar to you?
( answer vary)
3. Human body comprises of the different body systems, Can you name the different human
systems?
( Respiratory system, Reproductive system, Nervous system, Circulatory system, Digestive
system)
4.In what particular body system do you think we can find those words from the puzzle?
( The words we’ve got are all parts of our Digestive system)
5.So what do you think will be our lesson for today?
( We will be discussing the different parts and functions of our Digestive System)
DESIRED RESULTS
( ENGAGE)
1.Identify the parts and functions of the Digestive System
2.Trace the movement of food as it enters the mouth to the anus
3. State the importance of Digestion.
C. Presenting examples/instances of
the new lesson
( EXPLORE)
The food that we are eating undergoes a process called digestion. It is a simple process where large
insoluble food particles are broken down into smaller water soluble molecules so that they can be
absorbed by blood and gives energy throughout the entire body.
This time, you will be given different tasks to be performed within 5 minutes.
(Indicator 4,6)
During the activity, The teacher reminds the learners to always observe the health protocols, the class
rules and encourage learners to participate, cooperate and to do their best in the assigned task givento
them.
(Indicator 8)
Note:
Learner named Rex Cabanlit was given advance handouts about the topic since he has difficulty in
comprehending.
Group 1- Name the parts of the digestive system and present it through singing( THE SINGER)
Group 2- Label the functions of the different parts of the digestive system and present it through
storytelling. ( THE STORYTELLER)
Rubric
D. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #1
( EXPLAIN)
Let one representative present their group output in front.
Let’s find out if your answers are correct. Let’s watch the short video clip.
Guide Questions:
1.What are the different parts of the digestive system?
( mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, anus)
2.What are the functions of the different parts of the digestive system?
a.Mouth-it is where food is broken down into smaller pieces
b.Esophagus-it carries food from the mouth to the stomach
c.Stomach i-t serves as the storage tank of food. It releases acids and enzymes that help in
breaking down food into smaller particles so that it will be absorb by our body.
d.Small Intestine- it is where the absorption of nutrients and minerals from the food happens.
e.Large intestine- it absorbs water from the undigested food material
f.Rectum-acts as temporary storehouse of feces
g.Anus- it is an opening where the waste material passes through when excreted.
3.Where does food go first? Where does it end?
(enters in the mouth)( ends in the anus)
4.Why is digestion important?
(It helps in breaking down food into nutrients which the body uses for energy, growth and cell
repair)
Checking of group output
E. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #2 Living things need energy to do work. The energy which the human and animal needs comes from the
food.
( ELABORATE) Food fuels the body cells with the energy they need to operate. But the food the living things take in is a
complex material. For the food to release energy and nourishment it must be broken down into smaller
pieces that the body can absorb and utilize. The various types of food like rice, meat, etc. are not in a
form that the body can utilize. They should be changed into smaller molecules that the blood can absorb
and carry to all the cells comprising the body.
The digestive system in the human body is composed of organs working together to convert food into
energy and basic nutrients to feed the entire body. This is made up of a long tube called alimentary canal
or food tube. The digestive tract consists of the following: (1) mouth, (2) esophagus, (3) stomach, (4)
small intestine, (5) large intestine, (6) rectum and (anus).
Digestion starts in the mount. Food is broken into tiny pieces by the teeth. Salivary glands secrete saliva
into the food to moisten it by this time, food is termed as bolus which is then pushed by the tongue
towards a long tube called esophagus. The esophagus pushes the bolus down to the stomach through
waves of contracting muscles called peristalsis. The stomach acts as a storage tank of food so that the
body has time to digest large meals properly. It also contains hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes
that continue the digestion of food that began in the mouth. Final digestion happens in the small
intestine where the absorption of nutrients and minerals from the food. The undigested food becomes
watery and passes from small intestine into the large intestine. Large intestine absorbs water from the
undigested food materials. Fecal matter is stored in the rectum until the time it is excreted from the body
through an opening called anus.
(Indicator 1)
(Math integration)
Our esophagus is usually 10-13 inches or 25-33 cm. long. On the other hand, our small intestine
measures 20 feet or 6 meters while our large intestine measures 5 feet or 1. 5 meters.
Let us apply the appropriate mathematical symbol ( >, < , = ) for the following statement
So, therefore:
Small intestine is ___ large intestine.
Esophagus is ___ large intestine.
F. Developing mastery (leads to
Formative Assessment 3)
( ELABORATE)
(Indicator 7)
This time, let us trace the movement of the food by placing the number opposite to the parts.
Guide question?
If we are going to trace the movement of the food, what is the correct sequence?
(The food first enters the mouth then passes to the esophagus and goes to our stomach. Nutrients and
minerals are being absorbed in the small intestine. Undigested foods are being stored in the rectum and
these will pass to the anus for elimination)
G. Finding practical applications
of concepts and skills in daily
living
I have here sandwiches; I want you to have a slice of it. All you have to do is to eat it by properly
chewing it.
What do you think happens to the sandwich you just have eaten?
(It is broken down into smaller pieces)
What do you call the process?
(Digestion)
When you eat the sandwich, where do you think the sandwich goes?
(It enters in the mouth passes to the esophagus and goes to our stomach. Nutrients and minerals are
being absorbed in the small intestine. Undigested foods are being stored in the rectum and these will
pass to the anus for elimination)
(Indicator 9)
Do you know class, long before Subanen tribe is fond of planting a crop they called Adlai. It is a staple
crop and they cooked and served it steamed just like rice. The grains of adlai are also fermented and
served as pangasi or the adlai wine.
Does anyone of you here familiar to the crop called adlai? How about the pangasi?
( answer may vary)
Our Subanen brothers and sisters believed that eating only adlai made their ancestors lived up to 150
years because adlai grown organically, no chemical fertilizers added.
According to study, members of the subanen tribe chew their food properly to avoid being choke and
also proper digestion prevent us from indigestion..
Have you experienced eating without properly chewing the food? What happened?
(We experienced difficulty in breathing, we got choked)
What other practices / culture do you think does our Subanen brothers and sisters do to keep their body
healthy?
( answer may vary
What is the importance of digestion for you?
(For proper and easy absorption of nutrients present in the food throughout the body)
H. Making generalizations and As a recap, what is Digestion?
abstractions about the lesson(The process of breaking down food into smaller molecules is called digestion)
What are the parts involved in digestion?
(Mouth, esophagus, stomach, large intestine, small intestine, rectum and anus)
When you eat something, where does food goes firsts and ends?
(It enters in the mouth passes to the esophagus and goes to our stomach. Nutrients and minerals are
being absorbed in the small intestine. Undigested foods are being stored in the rectum and these will
pass to the anus for elimination)
Why is digestion important?
(For proper and easy absorption of nutrients present in the food throughout the body)
