Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. What is Climate Change?

The Primary Causes of Climate Change Human Causes Natural Causes Global Carbon Emissions Volcanic Activities Deforestation Solar Irradiance Agriculture Tectonic Shift Global energy-related CO2 emissions grew by 1.1% in 2023, increasing 410 million tonnes (Mt) to reach a new record high of 37.4 billion tonnes (Gt). This compares with an increase of 490 Mt in 2022 (1.3%). Emissions from coal accounted for more than 65% of the increase in 2023. Volcanic eruptions can cause climate change primarily through the release of gases and particles into the atmosphere. When volcanoes erupt, they emit large amounts of carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, ash, and other aerosols. These gases can contribute to the greenhouse effect, trapping heat in the atmosphere and leading to warming. Total tropical primary forest loss in 2023 totaled 3.7 million hectares. All this forest loss produced 2.4 gigatonnes (Gt) of carbon dioxide emissions in 2023, equivalent to almost half of the annual fossil fuel emissions of the United States. Solar irradiance, or the amount of solar energy reaching Earth's surface, plays a significant role in climate change. Variations in solar activity can influence climate patterns over long periods, The advent of modern, industrialized agriculture has significantly altered the vital but delicate relationship between soil and the climate—so much so that agriculture accounted for 11 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions in 2020. When tectonic plates move, they can alter the distribution of continents and oceans, which in turn affects ocean currents and atmospheric circulation patterns. Changes in ocean currents can impact the distribution of heat around the globe, leading to changes in regional climates. Additionally, tectonic activity such as volcanic eruptions can release large amounts of gases and particles into the atmosphere, which can temporarily cool the climate by blocking sunlight.

Climate Change Effects Rising temperatures and sea level Loss of biodiversity Health impacts Ocean acidification Melting ice caps and glaciers Disruption of agriculture and food supply

Reforestation and Afforestation Reduce carbon footprint How to prevent climate change? Sustainable living

Sustainable living Refrain from using plastic shopping bags. Conserve Energy Use of eco-friendly household products. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Eat Mindfully Planting plants around the house Avoid single-use plastics whenever possible. and use reusable bags, containers, and water bottles. Turn off lights and appliances when not in use, use energy-efficient bulbs, and consider renewable energy sources. Opt for products made from sustainable materials and support companies with eco-friendly practices. Minimize waste by reusing items, recycling materials, and avoiding single-use plastics. Reduce meat consumption, choose local and organic foods, and avoid food waste. Trees absorb carbon dioxide and provide oxygen. Consider planting native trees in your area.

Reforestation & Afforestation Reforestation Afforestation Reforestation involves converting previously forested land back to forest. It’s part of the ecological restoration of wild forests and is also used for more managed lands (e.g., paper production or timber). Afforestation is the establishment of trees on land that has lacked forest cover for a long time or has never been forested.

There are many things you could do to reduce your carbon footprint. Some of them are: Use public transportation Use the least polluting vehicle Reduce electricity usage at home Use biodegradable laundry detergent Reduce carbon footprint
