The combustion of carbon-based fossil fuels (oil, coal, and natural gas) for energy generation is accompanied by an enormous emission of anthropogenic greenhouse gases (GHGs) to the atmosphere, mostly in the form of CO 2 . 5
The research in this area have focused on the selective hydrogenation of CO 2 to CH4, oxygenates, CH3OH, HCOOH, and light olefins (C 2 –C 4 olefins ). Jet fuel, the generic name for the aviation fuels used in gas turbine powered aircraft has as its main components linear and branched alkanes and cycloalkanes with a typical carbon chain length distribution of C 8 –to- C 18 , and where the ideal carbon chain length is C 8 –C 16 . 6
