Similarities of Addie and Dick and Carey Both ADDIE and the Dick & Carey are ID models that focuses on the following three (3) key elements: Input output, process of designing the curriculum.
Differences - ADDIE and Dick & Carey ADDIE Dick & Carey more flexible more detailed and straight forward has five phases has ten phases an evaluation is done at the final phase an evaluation is conducted at every phase and a second evaluation is conducted to revise the instructions to ensure that it achieves the goal
Advantages of the ADDIE Model Most commonly used ID tool Its flexible Can be used across industries · Most of the other ID tools are spin offs or variations of the ADDIE model Provides structured guidance for the design of the training material Evaluation is a key component conducted at the end of the model. ·
Advantages of the Dick and Carey Because this model is detailed and straight forward, it is less likely that any of the steps would be missed. Provides guidance throughout the design process. Adjusts well for changes and amendments. Emphasis organizing training content.
Disadvantages of ADDIE Can be time consuming and very expensive. Steps must all be followed in sequential order. Stifles the creativity of the designer Evaluation does not assist with improving instructional material
Disadvantages of Dick and Carey Can be more time consuming because of its many steps. It is based on the premise that every one of its components are essential, and therefore none can be skipped.
Conclusion While there a similarities and differences between the ADDIE and the Dick and Carey Models, it is clear that both models are exceptional tools that can be utilized by training designers to create more concise, engaging, efficient and deliberate training materials.
