INTRODUCTION :- The alkaloid is extracted from Hemlock plant ( conium maculactum L .) Toxic properties of this plant is due to presence of group of alkaloid. It cause gradual paralysis, creeping of feet followed by convulsions and death. It can destroy all forms of life. It was the first alkaloid to be synthesized due to its easy structure . Properties of coniine:- It is a colourless and poisonous oily liquid. Boiling point is 167℃. It is an optically active compound. Its soluble in water. Has a burning taste. It is also soluble in organic solvents. It yields crystalline hydrochloride and picrate salt . BY- Ms MAYURI R SOMPURA 4

Constitution of coniine:- Hoffman first isolated coniine in 1827 and its structure was determined in 1885. Molecular formula is – C 8 H 17 N BY- Ms MAYURI R SOMPURA 5
