Conservation of Plants and Animals By Archit
" Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed ’’ ~ Mahatma Gandhi
Consequences of deforestation With increasing industrialization and due to overpopulation, the need for building material, paper , furniture, clothing has increased considerably , resulting in increased felling of trees . Large areas under forests are also cleared to create space for housing, agriculture , and industries .These activities cause a serious threat to environment.
Major enviromental effects 01 Reduced Rainfall 02 Imbalance of atmospheric Gasses 03 04 06 05 07 Change in physical properties of soil Change in climate Natural calamities Scarcity of products Degradation of habitat
Change in physical properties of soil Trees bind the soil to ground . When the cover is removed from the soil , soil erosion increases . The top soil gets washed away easily by wind or water and soil losses its fertility . Over a period of time , the land becomes barren , this is called Desertification .
.” R educed Rainfall With a reduction in plant life the water cycle gets disrupted . The area receives lesser and lesser rainfall , upsetting the natural balance of the environment .
Imbalance of atmospheric gasses Carbon dioxide released by the process of respiration by plants and animals , is taken by plants and is used for photosynthesis , which in turn releases oxygen . Deforestation causes an imbalance in the atmosphere , with increased concentration of carbon dioxide .
Changes in climate The increase in carbon dioxide concentration leads to increased temperature , k nown as greenhouse effect resulting in global warming . Wide scale climatic changes have been reported by scientists , causing worldwide concern .
Natural calamities Soil erosion makes the land dry and brittle , making it more prone to landslides . When rain water doesn’t get absorbed situations like flood may also occur
Scarcity of products We have become so used to having a variety of products which use wood or plant products , that we do not realise that , soon there will be shortage of products . Alternatives should be found before the condition becomes severe .
Degradation of habitats The forests provide a habitat for millions of organisms , birds and animals . A loss of flora results in a direct effect on the fauna of the area , as they are dependent on each other .
