is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to
ourselves and to one another…

NATURAL RESOURCES

NATURAL RESOURCES
Natural resources are the material which is
gifted by nature, and we use them as
resources in our day to day life . Thus
mining,petroleum,extraction,fishing,hunting,a
nd forestry are generally considered as
natural-resource industries

IMPORTANCE OF NATURAL RESOURCES
Natural resources play a
significant role in our lives.It
will be really difficult to
imagine the world without
natural resources.The globe
without natural resources will
be as the globe without
nature.The resource not only
add to our lives, they serve the
realm of progress

Management Of Natural Resources
All the things we use and consume are obtained from natural
resources.Due to increase in population, industrialisation and
urbanization the demand for natural resources is increasing and
their avialability is limited. So there is a need for proper management
of natural resources.
The proper management of natural resources consists of-
1.Judicious use of natural resources and avoiding wastage of natural
resources
2.Long term planning for the use of natural resource so that it last
only for the present but also for future generations.
3.the exploitation of natural resources should not be for the benefit of
a few people but should be disturbed equally for all.

Conservation Of Natural Resources
As the human population is continuously growing the
consumption of natural resources is also increasing. With the
increasing industrialization and urbanization of the modern human
society, the use of all the resources is rising. If they are not properly
used and well managed,a serious scarcity will result. Therefore we
need to conserve the natural resources. This will also upset the
ecological balance.
Conservation is the proper management of a natural resource to
prevent its exploitation,destruction or degradation.
Conservation is the sum of total of activities, which can derive
benefits from natural resources but at the same time prevent
excessive use leading to destruction or degradation.

Judicious Uses Of Natural Resources
Using water resources requires a permit if there is any
chance of the use causing damage. Wastewater, for
example, may cause waters to become eutrophied.
Ground waters can be spoiled by hazardous
substances or the removal of soil, for example.
Soil and rock aggregates are non-renewable natural
resources, used mostly in roads and buildings. The
Land Extraction Act provides the framework for the
sustainable use of geological resources.
There is a good deal of commercial forest in Finland,
where trees are harvested for the needs of the pulp,
paper and sawmill industries. Forests are also important
for recreation. A rich variety of berries, plants and
mushrooms can be gathered from the forests for food.

A forest is a large area of land covered with trees or other
woody vegetation.Hundreds of more precise definitions of
forest are used throughout the world, incorporating factors
such as tree density, tree height, land use, legal standing and
ecological function.

According to the widely-used United
Nations Food and Agriculture Organization definition, forests
covered an area of four billion hectares (15 million square
miles) or approximately 30 percent of the world's land area in
2006.
Forests are the dominant terrestrial ecosystem on Earth,
and are distributed across the globe.Forests account for 75%
of the gross primary productivity of the Earth's biosphere, and
contain 80% of the Earth's plant biomass.
Forests at different latitudes form distinctly different
ecozones: boreal forests near the poles tend to consist of
evergreens, while tropical forests near the equator tend to be
distinct from the temperate forests at mid-latitude. The amount
of precipitation and the elevation of the forest also affects
forest composition.
FOREST

Conservation Of Forests
Forests is an important part of the environment, because trees clean
the air and keep the atmosphere cool.We cannot live without
plants, because the oxygen need for breathing is produced by
plants.
Trees absorbs sunlight and reduce the heat.Plants provide food for
animals,firewood,timber,medicines,honey,wax,gum and food for
us.Tree roots penetrate deep into the soil and from cavities in the
ground. The dry leaves which fall on the ground, cover the soil and
absorb more rain water, which slowly percolates through the
soil. Thus,a large portion of the rain water can be the rain water can
be retained in the field,by planting more trees.Flooding of rivers can
be protected by protecting trees

WILDLIFE
The wildlife in India comprises a mix of species of different types of
organisms.

Apart from a handful of the major farm animals such as cows,
buffaloes, goats, poultry, pigs and sheep, India has an amazingly wide variety
of animals native to the country. It is home to Bengal tigers, Indian lions, deer
, pythons, wolves, foxes, bears, crocodiles, camels, wild dogs, monkeys,
snakes, antelope species, varieties of bisonand the Asian elephant. The
region's rich and diverse wildlife is preserved in 89 national parks, 18 Bio-
reserves and 400+ wildlife sanctuariesacross the country. India has some of
the most biodiverse regions of the world and hosts three of the world’s 34
biodiversity hotspots – or treasure-houses – that is the Western Ghats, the
Eastern Himalayas and Indo- Burma. Since India is home to a number of rare
and threatened animal species, wildlife management in the country is essential
to preserve these species.

India is one of the seventeenmegadiverse countries.
According to one study, India along with other 16 mega diverse countries is
home to about 60-70 % of the world's biodiversity.

Conservation Of Wildlife
•DEFINED
Wildlife protection act
started in 1972
j*Wildlife conservation is the protection of species
and habits of animals.
*The
banning of hunting seasons for endangered or
threatened species.
WILDLIFE
*According to the Wildlife
Protection Act of 1972,wildlife includes any
animal,bees,butterfly,crustacean,fish and coth; and
aquatic or land vegetation, which form part of any
habitat.
Therefore,wildlife refers to living
organisms(flora and fauna) in their natural habitats.
But cultivated plants
and domesticated animals are not included in
wildlife

CONSERVATION OF COAL AND PETROLEUM

COAL
Coal is a sedimentary,combustible,organic rock, formed from
vegetation. In other words coal is a fossil fuel created from the remains
of plants that
lived millions of years ago.It is considered as a non
renewable source of energy because it takes too much time to form.
Coal is mainly consists of carbon.
 It also consists some metal compound and some other impurities.

CONSERVATION OF CAOL
In the case of irreplaceable or wasting assets like
minerals it can only mean the avoidance of waste in all
phases of handling, and the careful and wise utilisation
of the deposits. The conservation of caol will therefore
necessitate careful control of mining, proseccing,
benefication, transport, distribution, and industrial use.
True conservation will not be attained unless everyone
connected with any phase of winning, trade and
utilisation of the mineral takes steps to see that no waste
takes place.

PETROLEUM
Petroleum is a naturally occurring, yellow-to-
black liquid found in geological formations beneath
the Earth's surface, which is commonly refined into
various types of fuels. It consists of hydrocarbons of
various molecular weights and other organic
compounds.
[4]
 The name petroleum covers both
naturally occurring unprocessed crude oil and
petroleum products that are made up of\n large
quantities of dead organisms,
usually zooplankton and algae, are buried
underneath sedimentary rock and subjected to
intense heat and pressure.
PETROLEUM

CONSERVATION OF PETROLEUM
1.Oil and gas conservation means their better
and more efficient use with regard to
economic,social or environmental costs and
benefits,resulting in attainment of higher
energy use efficiencies, minimization of
wasteful practices and wastage and protection
of
the environment.
2.Despite discovery of new sources of
unconventional energy and due to existing
inadequacies in supply of other forms of
commercial energy relative to demand,
petroleum remains the primary energy source
in India and a preferred swing fuel.
