Contractualism An idea of a Social Contract theory that attempts to derive the content of morality from an agreement between all those in the moral domain .
Contractualism (Rawls) It would be rational for everyone to choose, if we were all trying to reach agreement on the principles that we would all accept It is rational in self-interested terms for everyone to agree
Rawls ask: Which principles would citizens themselves agree on in circumstances that respected their freedom and equality?
Rawls’s Principles Equal basic civil and political liberties Fair value of political liberties Fair equality of opportunity “Difference principle”: social and economic inequalities should be to everyone’s advantage; they should maximize the prospects of the least advantage
Conclusion Contractualism is a Social Contract Theory that a universal acceptance is rational to everyone or everyone should agree.
