Introduction Contrast refers to the arrangement of opposite elements (light vs. dark colors, rough vs. smooth textures, large vs. small shapes, etc.) in a piece so as to create visual interest, excitement and drama .
Importance of contrast in design Contrast is the secret ingredients that gives those memorable spaces their impact. When used correctly, this foundational design principle can add a huge dose of visual interest to your interiors while simultaneously pulling it together. Many consider it an essential component to any successful interior It can also be used to create emphasis in an interior Contrast enables one to see things clearly over a background
Application of contrast There are various way of achieving contrast . Space 9 The bed in the picture shows filled/occupied space contrasting empty space above it which is defined by the yellow beams. Also on the wall there is a wall-hanging with negative space contrasting positive space thus helping the figure of the panda to be visible
10 Value Generally a space will seem lighter in the area around the source of light. This lighter area contrast the darker areas far from the source of light.
