Conversion Presented by : FRESSETTE VINSON

Conversion Is restating the truth of the proposition by interchanging the subject and the predicate of the original proposition without over extending the quantity of either of the terms. The original proposition to be converted is called convertend , while the resulting re-statement is called converse . Example : Convertend: Some government officials are thief. Converse: Some thief are government officials.

Steps in conversion 1. Interchange the subject and the predicate 2. Do not change the quantity 3. Do not extend any term ®P New P S P C C P S

Types of conversion Simple Conversion- it takes place when the quantity of the original proposition remains unchanged in converse. I to I: Some judges are just; therefore, some just persons are judges. I to I: Some teachers are considerate people; therefore, some considerate people are teachers. E to E: No atheist is a believer of God; therefore, no believer of God is an atheist.

E to E: No adult person is an infant; therefore, no infant is an adult person. A to A: (If the predicate is the definition of the subject of converted and if they are interchangeable) Every alligator is an animal; therefore, Every animal is an alligator. Mr. Inodeo is our logic teacher: therefore, our teacher in logic is Mr. Inodeo,

Partial (Accidental) Conversion - partial (accidental) conversion happens when the quantity of the original proposition is change in the converse. This partial conversion is from: A to I: Every horse is an animal ; therefore some animals are horse . E to O: No cat is a two legged animal ; therefore some two legged animals are not cat . UNIVERSAL PROPOSITION PARTICULAR PROPOSITION
