with animals, including an influx of puppies
and kittens unlike anything we've seen in

Important Questions
The Approach
In early October 2023, a survey was distributed to UTD students, friends, and family, resulting in
150 completed responses.
The Context
The SPCA of Texas is facing an influx of animals in their shelter due to a shortage of funding for
spay and neuter surgeries, restrictions on pet ownership in apartments, and inflation.
How can the SPCA
encourage more
people to adopt?
How do we reach
those interested in
adopting?
Why are people not
adopting?

significance of focusing on initiatives
aimed at raising foster rates to
encourage adoption.

Recommended
Actions
Utilize data to tailor social media content
more effectively for each channel.
Host regular adoption events to facilitate
fostering and community engagement.
Better communicate events and resources
provided by the SPCA.

The Quick Story
The SPCA of Texas is experiencing a huge flux of animals in their shelter. While most
people are currently not interested in adopting, data shows that fostering leads to a
higher chance of adoption. To promote fostering, a key pathway to adoption, the
SPCA can raise awareness through targeted social media campaigns tailored to the
preferred platforms of specific demographics.
Instagram and Tiktok should prioritize posts about zero adoption rate dates, details on
financial support, and specific information on different animals available, while
Facebook should have a heavier emphasis on community building.
This can help reach demographics that would otherwise not adopt and increase
visibility of the financial resources and community events that are provided.
