WHAT IS CRICKET ? Cricket is a bat and ball game that is played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a 22-yard (20-metre) pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps . Two players from the batting team (the striker and non striker) stand in front of either wicket holding bats , with one player from the fielding team (the bowler) bowling the ball towards the striker's wicket from the opposite end of the pitch. The striker's goal is to hit the bowled ball with the bat and then switch places with the non striker, with the batting team scoring one run for each exchange. Runs are also scored when the ball reaches or crosses the boundary of the field or when the ball is bowled illegally .
EARLY HISTORY OF CRICKET CRICKET was created during Saxon or Norman times by children living in the Weald, an area of dense woodlands and clearings in south-east England that lies across Kent and Sussex . The first definite written reference is from the end of the 16th century. There have been several speculations about the game's origins, including some that it was created in France or Flanders. The earliest of these speculative references is from 1300 and concerns the future King Edward II playing at "creag and other games" in both Westminster and Newenden . It has been suggested that "creag" was an Old English word for cricket, but expert opinion is that it was an early spelling of " craic ", meaning "fun and games in general". It is generally believed that cricket survived as a children's game for many generations before it was increasingly taken up by adults around the beginning of the 17th century. Possibly cricket was derived from bowls , assuming bowls is the older sport, by the intervention of a batsman trying to stop the ball from reaching its target by hitting it away.

Some basics of Cricket 11 Players per side 2 Batsman are in action 1 Bowler bowls 1 Wicket keeper behind the stumps 9 fielders 2 Ground Umpires 1 Referee
BASIC RULES Each team is made up of 11 players. The bowler must bowl 6 legal deliveries to constitute an over. A game must have two umpires stood at either end of the wicket. The umpires then must count the number of balls in the over, make decisions on whether the batsmen is out after an appeal and also check that the bowler has bowled a legal delivery. A batsmen can be given out by either being bowled ( the ball hitting their stumps), caught (fielder catches the ball without it bouncing), Leg Before Wicket (the ball hits the batsmen’s pads impeding its line into the stumps), stumped (the wicket keeper strikes the stumps with their gloves whilst the batsmen is outside of their crease with ball in hand), hit wicket (the batsmen hits their own wicket), Handled ball ( the batsmen handles the cricket ball on purpose), timed out (the player fails to reach the crease within 30 seconds of the previous batsmen leaving the field), hit ball twice (batsmen hits the cricket ball twice with their bat) and obstruction ( the batsmen purposely prevents the fielder from getting the ball). Test cricket is played over 5 days where each team has two innings (or two chances to bat). The scores are then cumulative and the team with the most runs after each innings is the winner. One Day cricket in played with 50 overs. Each team has 50 overs to bat and bowl before swapping and doing the previous discipline. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins.
Women Cricket Women's cricket is the team sport of cricket when played by women . Its rules are almost identical to those in the game played by men, the main change being the use of a smaller ball . Women's cricket is beginning to be played at professional level in 11 of the 12 full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC), [ and is played worldwide, especially in Commonwealth nations . The first recorded cricket match between women was held in England on 26 July 1745. The game continued to be played socially by women until clubs for women were formed in the late 1800s. In 1926, the creation of the Women's Cricket Association (WCA) in England began the process of formalising the game and organising international matches . Like many women's sports , the further development of women's cricket was hampered by sexism and a lack of structural support.

TEST CRICKET Test cricket is the longest and oldest type of international cricket . The first officially recognized Test match took place on 15–19 March 1877 and was played between England and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground , where Australia won by 45 runs. The early test matches were played by England against other sides in the British Empire . The early tests are:- 1889 versus South Africa 1928 versus West Indies Follow-on Follow-on is a rule by which the team batting in second innings can be enforced to bat Again just after the end of their first innings. The follow-on can be enforced by the team batted in the first innings only if their first-innings lead is at least 200 runs. Minimum Lead Required When the test match length is 3 or 4 days, the minimum lead required to enforce follow-on is 150 runs. If the test match length is 2 days, the minimum lead required to enforce follow-on is 100 runs. BGT - 2021(AUS) THE ASHES-2020(ENG) TWO BEST TEST MATCHES
ONE DAY INTERNATIONAL(ODI) A One Day International ( ODI ) is a form of 50 overs limited overs cricket , played between two teams with international status, in which each team faces 50 overs , with the game lasting up to 7 hours. The Cricket World Cup , generally held every four years, is played in this format. One Day International matches are also called Limited Overs Internationals ( LOI ). The first ODI was played on 5 January 1971 between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground . RULES The Captain of the side winning the toss chooses to either bat or bowl (field) first. The team batting first sets the target score in a single innings . The innings lasts until the batting side is "all out" (i.e., 10 of the 11 batting players are "out") or all of the first side's allotted overs are completed. Each bowler is restricted to bowling a maximum of 10 overs (fewer in the case of any event generally no more than one fifth or 20% of the total overs per innings). Therefore, each team must comprise at least five competent bowlers (either dedicated bowlers or all-rounders). The team batting second tries to score more than the target score in order to win the match. Similarly, the side bowling second tries to bowl out the second team or make them exhaust their overs before they reach the target score in order to win. If the number of runs scored by both teams is equal when the second team loses all its wickets or exhausts all its overs, then the game is declared a tie (regardless of the number of wickets lost by either team).
Twenty20 ( T20 ) is a shortened game format of cricket . At the professional level, it was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 for the inter-county competition. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of twenty overs . “The first Twenty20 International match was held on 5 August 2004 between the England and New Zealand women's teams, with New Zealand winning by nine runs.” RULES The Laws of cricket apply to Twenty20, with major exceptions: Each bowler may bowl a maximum of only one-fifth of the total overs per innings. For a full, uninterrupted match, this is four overs. If a bowler delivers a no-ball by overstepping the crease , it costs one or two runs (depending on the competition) and their next delivery is designated a " free-hit ". In this circumstance the batter can only be dismissed through a run out , hitting the ball twice or obstructing the field . The following fielding restrictions apply: No more than five fielders can be on the leg side at any time. During the first six overs, a maximum of two fielders can be outside the 30-yard circle (this is known as the powerplay ). + T20( TWENTY20 ) INTERNATIONAL
