•Licensing by server capacity (PVU =
Processor Value Units) is increasingly
meaningless and difficult as processor
architectures change and Cloud/SaaS
prevails. And you must constantly pay
attention to configuration changes for
needed true-up for HA, scalability and DR and HW upgrades !
•Likewise, the corequisite client side licensing is increasingly meaningless as there are no longer any
dependency on a rich client deployment for a laptop/desktop as web clients prevails, but CALs are required at
same level as the servers to actually use the servers!
•Very difficult to maintain a “compliant environment” across client/browser users and on-prem server/cloud
deployments, hence these old products will be deprecated! Misunderstandings abound!
•CollaborationExpress was an old model for doing a limited scale license for SMB with operational restrictions.
•Former IBM products does NOT include all new Domino components – only CCB products include all.
Why not CAL/PVU ...

•Perpetual entitlement compliance
üThe License is perpetual and so are the Ts&Cs for the License.
You must maintain license compliance otherwise the license is VOID.
üAudit clauses are also perpetual as well as tied to the IP entitlement not the Support !
üMust comply with PVU usage, CEO counts, entitled user volumes, etc, etc,
again also perpetual and unrelated to active/expired Support
üAnd remember, if you need to true-up any entitled volume,
you must first restart all expired entitlements to not create a partial renewal!!
•Partners offering support to lapsed support customers (no S&S renewal)
üAny services performed by BP for running and using Domino are of course legitimate
üIf customer has a product support case, partner should not escalate on behalf of customer and
can not provide any past or new fixes or updates, unless using customers active support entitlement
üIf partner recreates in own environment they can of course call support for partner’s environment,
but any kind of (hot)fix required cannot legally be provided to the customer!
üCustomer has no right to receive Support from HCLSoftware or download anything without active Support!
