Data Visualization in Advanced Excel Keerthana jonnalagadda 24914080197- MBA Data science

Introduction Data visualization transforms raw data into insightful visuals that aid decision-making. Excel remains one of the most accessible and powerful tools for data analysis and visualization. This project focuses on advanced Excel features: dynamic interactive plots, slicers for easy filtering, and Power Query for robust data preparation.

Dataset Overview The dataset contains sales information for Amazon products, including product IDs, names, categories, prices, discounts, ratings, and rating counts. Data structure supports multidimensional analysis by category, price, and rating.

Power Query Workflow Power Query helps automate data import and cleaning, saving time and reducing manual errors. Steps include removing unwanted symbols, converting text to numbers, and splitting multi-level categories for detailed analysis. Loaded data is ready for creating PivotTables and visualizations without manual preprocessing.

Creating Interactive Plots PivotTables summarize key metrics such as average price, discount rates, and product ratings. PivotCharts visualize these summaries with interactive elements that update on filtering. Form Controls, like drop-down lists and scroll bars, add user-driven filtering, allowing detailed drill-downs in plots.

Using Slicers Slicers offer an intuitive, clickable way to filter PivotTables/ PivotCharts based on fields like category or rating. Multiple slicers can be connected, allowing complex filtering combinations. Improves navigation and user control in dashboards, making analysis faster and more interactive.

Results

Conclusion Excel’s advanced visualization tools are excellent for quick insights and prototyping. Power Query and slicers empower users to create self-service analytics dashboards easily. Future opportunities include integrating Excel dashboards with Power BI for scalable, richer data storytelling solutions. Recommended as a foundational tool for analysts before moving to advanced BI platforms.
