What is data visualization? Data visualization is representing data in a visual context, like a chart, map or graphic to help people understand the  significance  of that data. 6 It enables decision makers to see analytics presented visually, so they can grasp difficult concepts or identify new patterns. Why is data visualization important? 7 Because of the way the human brain processes information, using charts or graphs to visualize large amounts of complex data is easier than poring over spreadsheets or reports. Source: www.sas.com

Enhancing Information with Visuals 8

Scenario 9 You work in the analytics department for a large Travel & Tourism company based out of Toronto. The project team is working on a campaign to target vacationing families with the hopes of increasing visitors to the Toronto Islands following a slow season due to island flooding the previous year. Crucial to the marketing campaign, is showcasing available accommodations across the city. The team has come to you asking for ‘the lay of the land’ in terms of what is available through Airbnb. Lucky for you, Airbnb has a large, public data set available.

Using PowerPoint to Visualize Data 21

Adding Icons & Images 22 Images search returns the best results Adding the word ‘icon’ after your search word will give you a better shot at finding the images best suited to a presentation For example… www.iconfinder.com

Choosing Icons 23 House Icon

Choosing Icons with Similar Look & Feel 24 You can make most icons match your presentation by formatting the colour of the icon to match your theme For example… BEFORE AFTER

Changing the Colour of Icons 25
