Yoga can be defined in many ways. Everyone has their own meaning A general meaning of yoga: “ Yujyate anena iti yogahaa ” Meaning: Joining of our soul to the brahman

Yoga is a systematic set of practices by which one can attain supernatural powers through the process of concentration. Yoga is a bridge between science and spirituality. Yoga is the compression of one’s own evolution into a single life of a few days or few months of own bodily existence.

“ Yogas chitta vritti nirodha ” ( PYS 1/2) “Yoga is the neutralization of the vortices of feeling” According to the ancient sage  Patanjali Yoga  is the neutralization of ego-directed feelings because once these become stilled, the yogi realizes that he is and that he has always been, one with the infinite – that his awareness of this reality was limited only by his infatuation with limitation.

' Samatvam yoga uchyate ' (Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 48)   Be steadfast in the performance of your duty, O Arjun , abandoning attachment to success and failure. Such equanimity is called Yog . If we keep struggling to eliminate negative situations, we will be unable to avoid unhappiness. But if we can learn to accept everything that comes our way, without sacrificing our best efforts, we will have surrendered to the will of god, and that will be true yog .

"Yoga: Karmasu Kaushalam " ‘योग: कर्मसु कौशलम्’   (B hagavad Gita: Chapter 2, Verse 50) One who prudently practices the science of work without attachment can get rid of both good and bad reactions in this life itself. Therefore, strive for Yog , which is the art of working skillfully (in proper consciousness). The fact that he did his duty without attachment did not make him any less competent than before. In fact, he fought with greater inspiration because his work was directly in service of God.

“ Nishkam Karma” निष्काम कर्म |  ( Chapter 3, shloka 21 from Bhagavat Geeta) Means “action or without desire” or “work without motive” Krishna suggests that we have rights only on the work or the action, and not on its results, whether it is good or bad. Our works, our desires should be “desireless”, we should not desire for any pleasing (or unpleasing) result.

According to Shri Aurobindo Methodological efforts towards the self-perfection by developing the potentialities which is latent in the individual. Yoga is the passage from ignorance to self-knowledge, from our apparent to our true being, from an outer phenomenal, mental, vital, materialistic life existence to our inner spiritual nature.
