Definitive Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of a "Definitive Essay" can be a challenging task. The difficulty
lies not only in the ambiguity of the term itself but also in the expectations that come with
defining something definitively. The very nature of the subject demands a thorough
understanding of the chosen topic, a nuanced exploration of its various facets, and a meticulous
presentation of arguments to substantiate the chosen definition.
The challenge begins with the need for extensive research to gather information and insights into
the subject. A definitive essay requires a deep dive into the nuances and complexities of the
chosen topic, demanding not only surface-level knowledge but also a comprehensive
understanding of its historical context, contemporary relevance, and potential future
developments.
Crafting a well-structured and coherent essay is another hurdle. The essay must have a clear
introduction that sets the stage for the definition to be explored, followed by a systematic
development of ideas in the body paragraphs. Each paragraph should contribute to the overall
understanding of the topic, presenting evidence and examples to support the chosen definition.
Transitioning between paragraphs and ensuring a logical flow of ideas can be intricate but is
crucial for a successful essay.
Furthermore, striking the right balance between being informative and engaging poses a
challenge. The essay should not only convey information but also captivate the reader's attention.
This necessitates a thoughtful selection of language, tone, and style to maintain a sense of
coherence while avoiding monotony.
In addition, the task of refining and polishing the essay cannot be underestimated. Thorough
proofreading and editing are essential to eliminate errors, improve clarity, and enhance the
overall quality of the writing. Achieving the precision required for a definitive essay demands
careful attention to detail.
Despite the difficulties, mastering the art of writing a definitive essay can be immensely
rewarding. It not only hones one's research and analytical skills but also fosters a deeper
understanding of the chosen subject. With perseverance and dedication, the challenges can be
overcome, resulting in a well-crafted essay that makes a meaningful contribution to the discourse
surrounding the topic.

How Does Dickens Create Suspense
4.Dickens creates an atmosphere of mystery and danger by keeping the reader in
suspense and on edge. He does so through his abundance of details in his
descriptions. He evokes emotions that the reader wouldn t otherwise feel unless
they were there. Dickens uses imagery to make the reader feel as though they are
in the novel with the other characters, making it tangible. He increases the tension
in the chapter using heavy mist, which is used to block the reader s vision, so they
cannot tell what is coming next. The setting also played a role in creating such a
suspenseful mood. It is a late night in November, so it is particularly dark and cold
outside. The Dover mail coach is traveling up a hill called Shooter s Hill, which
leads the reader to know that the surroundings are dangerous and to think that
someone might get shot. 5.When Jerry Cruncher first heard Mr. Lorry s message, he
was confused. He knew the literal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. Jarvis Lorry is the embodiment of order on the outside. He wears sleek
stockings and shoes with plain, but trim buckles. Although his clothes are not of
higher quality, like his stockings, they were still a crisp white. His suit was brown,
finishing his look of a proper businessman. Mr. Lorry does not even have a hair out
of place. His face is clear of emotions, and he insists that he is a man of business
who has no feelings. His brown clothing helps to make him look dull and reserved,
which is how people would assume that he is a trustworthy and honest
businessman. The reader also notes that Mr. Lorry has carefully trained and forced
himself to look dull instead of bright and full of life. Like many other men, he is
under the impression that showing his feelings is not a masculine act. By hiding his
true feelings, he thinks he is being strong. However, the reader knows that he is a
compassionate and sentimental man because he goes out of his way to take care of
Miss Manette and her father although doing so could tarnish his

Factors Affecting The Hospitality Industry
According to the read and digest website, a resort is a place where families intend
to spend their holidays or weekends for relaxation or recreation. Usually resorts are
commercial establishments like hotels, which are managed by companies. People
in urban areas are especially busy all through the week and look for ways to
refresh and rejuvenate themselves. Resorts are the perfect place for such people
who can happily spend time with their families and also getaway places for
birthday parties and theme parties. They are usually located away from the hustle
bustle of cities and towns. (read and digest). There are several factors to consider
when talking about resorts there are always trends, economic, social/societal, and
global issues that are to be considered. Economic Trends Most, if not all, parts of
the hospitality industry excel from rises in the world economy, and suffer from the
lows (Kapiki), and destination resorts are no exception. During low periods in the
economy destination resorts try to lower their prices for customers to be able to
still coming, and raise their prices when the economy improves. Destination resorts,
however, do not just depend on the world economy. Most destination resorts are
located in places called resort towns because the towns rely heavily on the resorts
for jobs, outside income, and just about every other aspect of their local economy. In
the case of the resorts failing, these towns would either partially or completely
collapse, however

Advancements in Medical Research Due to Hela Cells

Advancement of Medical Research from HeLa Cells HeLa simply stands for
Henrietta Lacks, a young mother in the 1951 who went to the doctor complaining of
vaginal bleeding and discovered she had cervical cancer. Henrietta s cells were taken
for a biopsy and were found to be like nothing ever seen before; her cells were
immortal. Her cancer cells double every 20 to 24 hours and have lived on for the past
60 years. Since HeLa cells were created, our world of modern medicine has been
completely changed. We now vaccines for once incurable diseases and have used
the cells for cloning and other biomedical research. Although the cells have done a

HeLa cells have had a positive influence on medicine in many ways including with
giving us knowledge about the human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA and HPV18
positive. HeLa cells have been linked to changes in microRNA expression. Since
HPV18 has been associated with very aggressive adenocarcinomas, this finding may
explain why Dr. Gey was surprised by the prolific growth of HeLa cells in culture.
Routine Papanicolaou smear screening may not detect rapidly progressive cervical
carcinomas; the new HPV vaccine holds the promise of preventing these tumors.
(Hutchins). The problem of possible contamination of other long term cultured tumor
cell lines with HeLa cells not only caused an international embarrassment, but also
raised the concern of misattributing a specific property so another cell line, for
example, a virus or a tumor specific marker, which actually belongs to HeLa. With the
continued and growing use of tissue culture in biochemist research, intra and
interspecific contamination becomes a significant risk. The determination of stable
genetic markers on cultured cells is a powerful tool for monitoring such
contamination. Recent experiments in which cultured cells and innumerable clones
of somatic cell hybrids have been used for genetic analysis have shown that, with the
proper use of polymorphic markers to characterize the cells, the possibility of
undetected cross contamination of cultures is no longer the problem it once may have

While much attention was given to improve communication with the outside world,
less attention was paid to enhance and developed the internal communication
(Ogunsola Aboyade, 2005).
Hence, the evolution and growth of the Nigerian ICT sector to some extent is
associated with the indigenization decree promulgation of 1977. That decree
however, led to increase in the number of indigenous computers dealers and
merchants in the country, which prompted a more aggressive marketing by the
retailers. Which in turn resulted and stimulated a significant aggressive awareness in
computer techonolgy and usage in the country (Ministry Of Communication
Technology, 2012). The amendment of the ICT law in 1992, according to Odufuwa

the government ministries to two new regulatory bodies ( the NBC and NCC).

Tax Base Miami
Tax Base Miami MLA People living in Miami are in the face of danger, and for the
most part they are not aware of it. Due to high population, Miami is the fourth
largest city to become affected by sea level rise. (Ankum et al.) In the next 32 50
years, sea level is expected to rise by as much as two feet. (Ankum et al.) This two
foot rise will have detrimental effects on the urban settings of Miami. The amount of
soil erosion that is undergoing at our beaches will greatly increase if a two foot rise
occurs. At a four foot rise, road connectivity would begin to become affected. At a six
foot rise, Southern Floridawould no longer be habitable as it would, for the most
part, be underwater. Not much is being invested in mitigation efforts, most of what
is being done are short term solutions. Instead of coming up with ideas to prevent
and try to slow down the effects of climate change on our environment, we are
focusing on ideas such as building up a sea wall, relocating power plants, and
redesigning structures. Climate isn t the only thing changing, our environments are
changing too. Our lakes are becoming polluted and eutrophic (Scavia et al.), which
causes the overgrowth of algae and death of many of the species found within the
lakes. Here in Miami, water has an important role in the value of housing by real
estate buyers. (McCormick et al.) Imagine building two houses of identical shape and
size. One house is built around a neighborhood devoid of water sources and the

Analysis Of The Book Entanglement
The study of quantum mechanics has been ongoing for hundreds of years. The book,
Entanglement by Amir D. Aczel allows the reader to see the evolution of the study of
quantum mechanics over those hundreds of years from a fresh perspective. He offers
an inside look at the scientists who have contributed so much to the field throughout
the years. In his book, Aczel humanizes the people who we previously looked at just
as names behind different theories, equations, and methods by exploring their
backgrounds and their own unique motivations to study quantum mechanics. He
shows how their work over the years built unto that of their predecessors. The
scientists come from different generations and places, but Aczel shows that they all
share something in common. While only some of them were aware of it at the time,
all of their work would contribute to the discovery and understanding of one of the
most complex issue of quantum mechanics, entanglement. However, even
understanding entanglement was not enough to answer the question we still ask even
today, why the quantum?
The quantum theory we are familiar with today had not yet been developed when
Thomas Young was working as a physicist, but his work was very important to
quantum theory. Young was interested in many different academic fields in addition
to his studies on light, such as natural philosophy and Egyptian hieroglyphics. He
was also a trained physician. Perhaps it was a good thing that was not a very
successful doctor,

African American Males are Following Trends of White...
Recently, the media has caused many stereotypes due to portraying African American
males playing feminine roles. This perspective depicts men of color wearing attire
outside of the stereotypical sagging pants and oversized t shirts. It depicts an
educated man with social class and sophistication. To date, society holds African
Americanmen to rigid stereotypes and a high standard of masculinity. However,
once a man of color steps outside societal stereotypes and into the perspective
reflected by this new lens, far too often his own race rejects him on the grounds of
not molding into the same rigid stereotypes that prevents his growth. Stripping the
young man who adopts this new perspective of his ability to identify with his own

Growing up, Perry suffered brutal physical abuse from his father and severe sexual
abuse from several adults (Tyler ). Dressing as a drag queen to fulfill the role of
his most reputable and recognizable character, Madea, a no nonsense, thuggishly
tough matriarch, Tyler Perry flirts with gender roles and challenges societal beliefs
on masculinity within the black world. In Forbes most recent list of the world s
one hundred most powerful celebrities, Perry is highlighted at twenty two,
alongside Hollywood s most notable celebrities, including his close friend and
reigning champion of Forbes number one spot for five consecutive years Oprah
Winfrey. Despite his vast success, Tyler Perry still receives flak from judgmental
skeptics who challenge his masculinity as a man of color. Due to his acting role as
Madea, some skeptics believe Mr. Perry is less of a man as he dresses in drag for a
character in his plays and is suspected to be homosexual. This not only points him out
individually, but it also creates stereotypes grounded from this source of media to the
African American males. Grounded with integrity, black culture must celebrate rather
than condemn every aspect of its people.
African Americans must be informed of the subliminal messages being passed
through movies and Television shows. In order to dismiss the inaccuracy of the way
colored males are viewed, the media must expand and show more educated African

Nuala NГ Dhomhnaillв Ђ™s The Astrakhan Cloak Essay
Nuala NГ Dhomhnaill s The Astrakhan Cloak
The Astrakhan Cloak, published in 1992, is a collection of poems by Nuala NГ
Dhomhnaill. Several aspects of the book deserve notice from the reader, including
structural and thematic elements that work to develop an overall sense of mystery,
wonder, and loss. A significant theme of the poems in the collection is the dichotomy
of the supernatural and civilized worlds, and the sense that there are forces in the
world just beyond our perception and understanding. In general the poems presented
are short, but the final inclusion is a longer poem divided into sections, each
somewhat able stand on its own. Read as a whole the final poem underscores the
central themes presented in the book.

The first three poems in the collection, Carnival, The View from Cabinteely, and I
Fall in Love, do not overtly discuss the supernatural world. There are metaphorical
images of the natural and supernatural worlds, such as the first few lines of Carnival
that read: When you rise in the morning/and pour into me/an unearthly music rings in
my ears. (NГ Dhomhnaill 11) The unearthly music appears as the first reference to
the supernaturally beautiful world. Only upon further reading do we discover that
while the speaker experiences that unearthly music , it is transitory. Later, in the
third section of Carnival, the speaker and her lover are compared to Celtic gods or
natural forces:
If we were gods/here at Newgrange you Sualtam or the Daghda, myself the famous
river we could freeze the sun and the moon for a year and a day to perpetuate the
pleasure we have together.
Alas, it s far from gods we are, but bare, forked creatures. (NГ Dhomhnaill 13)
These images and references serve as the first indication that there are forces beyond
the ken of mortal humans.
The fourth poem, The Battering, expands the supernatural world for the reader,
describing child abduction by fairies. Interestingly, the speaker in the poem is aware
of the supernatural beings, and enters their world to rescue her child. Some images in
The Battering link the natural and supernatural worlds in real ways. When the
speaker attempts to leave

Essay On African American Religion
Ever since the late 16th century African American people have been treated
unfairly and forced to work as slaves against their will. The religion, racism has
turned our world upside down by defacing colored people s homes and stores and
physically harming the African American people. A product of the belief that humans
are divided into separate and exclusive biological entities called races is racism, an
ideology based on the notion that some races are innately superior to others, (Raceand
ethnicity). In the modern 21st century African Americancitizens are being denied
jobs, homes, and service in shops which I not only believe is wrong but needs to be
eliminated around the world. The religion that is racism is currently being protected...

African slave trade was a very deadly and disturbing process that killed many native
african tribe members. The African slave trade started with African American
tribes giving their prisoners of rival tribes to the English ship s crews in return for
guns. After they were traded they were forced on cargo ships in the lower deck
and crammed into untidy quarters where many of the slaves perished. The religion
racism slowly began to form and as years passed it became extremely violent.
African American children around the age of 12 are targeted the most in America,
and about 41% of them are victims of vicious hate crimes (Racism Statistics and
Facts). One of the most difficult things that an African American person in the
modern world can do is apply for a job. The unemployment rate for black American
citizens is around 9.4 percent, while only 4.3 white American citizens are left
unemployed each year (The Employment Situation). Many American citizens believe
that African American people only deserve low class jobs and high class jobs
should be given to white American citizens who have lived in America their entire
lives (Race and

Core Training Principles
The 3 core principles of Compliance include Advisory, Training Monitoring.
Compliance is everyone s responsibility. Each employee is expected to be aware of
the regulatory requirements and what they must do to achieve compliance in the
context of their roles. This can be achieved through effective training. MAS
regulations on Internal Controls released in March 2013 2 states that An institution
should ensure that its staff are equipped with knowledge of new products as well as
changes in legislation and regulations, and adequately trained to enhance their
efficiency and effectiveness. It should identify skill gaps and assess training needs

Installing A Office Surveillance System
Due to the rapid advancement in technology especially in the security industry,
there is a huge surge in the numbers of company surveillance of the employees and
different ways of supervision have been established. Many companies have
installed security cameras in the workplace and have access to the browsing
history and emails of workers. However, there has been an uproar among the
workers lately as they are more exposed to social media and news from different
places. More and more cases of employers overextending their power and control of
workers private lives can be seen all over the United States. For example, according
to the president of Teamsters Local 804, Tim Sylvester, the metrics based assault of
workers is not anything strange (Bruder, 2015). Indeed, it is not beneficial to a
company to install office surveillancesystem because it raises privacyconcerns among
the workers, causes mistrust between employees and employers, and reduces
organizational commitment. It is argued by some that installing surveillance system
in the workplace is advantageous to the company because the companies need to
protect their company assets and trade secrets. This is because electronic surveillance
prevents any intrusion, hacking or negative attempts to their computer systems.
Indeed, Ball (2010) contends that they want to protect corporate interests and trade
secrets. Email, Internet monitoring and information access control are all deployed
against risks of defamation,

C. Meindert Hobbema Essay
C.Meindert Hobbema painted this painting based on the art movement at the time:
baroque and landscape painting. Meindert wasn t a popular artist at his time, but has
become popular over the years as he took a slightly different approach to both
movements. Most Dutch painters focused on making the environment vast with life
and grandeur, but Hobbema liked to paint small rural areas and capture nature in its
most natural setting. This different approach made his paintings stand out even more,
especially since Dutch paintingin the 17th century focused mainly on grandeur of the
Dutch culture. Today the painting can be located at the Philadelphia Art Museum.

2.The painting was painted with oil and a canvas, which is what many painters used
to create their paintings in the Dutch Golden Age.
3.The Netherlands landscape was the topic Meindert focused on. The landscape was
very important to him since this was the century he was living in, to show the beauty
of the country you are from.
4.Landscapes is the topic of the painting, but the theme is nature itself. Meindert
painted the nature of the Netherlands, showing natural beauty without adding any
extra features. Many landscape paintings depicted the pure beauty of nature without
needing the assistance of extra objects within the painting.

A Route Through A Maze
Solution 1,
The solution for Problem Set 1, required a route through a maze. Elkner et al. (2010)
suggested that, A program is a sequence of instructions that specifies how to perform
a computation. Given this information, it was concluded that rules and disciplines
were required in order for the knight to understand and process any instructions given
to it. Having prior knowledge that the knight would foremost, need a full
understanding of movement as a program platform, it was evaluated, that rotational
360o axis was attached as a second layer to the maze, this accommodated to calculate
how many degrees the knight would need to turn as it progressed through the maze;
leaving an understanding of full movement understanding (see Appendix C).
A solution to this was to complete and record all of the movements in a Microsoft
Excel chart. The chart would record how many movements the knight would have
to take, how many steps were required, whether to turn left 90o or turn right 90o
and movements up or down. The decision was also made to declare that each square
the knight had completed, would be recorded as 1 step and whether the knight turned
or moved multiple steps, each procedure would be recorded as 1 movement (see
Appendix A).
Using this method, I created a cognitive solution or pathway to a complex maze. Its
simplicity produced a visual instruction on which directional momentum or pivot the
knight would need to move in order to reach the Princess in the centre of

Piaget (Discontinuous Theory) vs. Vygotsky (Continuous Theory) Discontinuous
Classic Stage Theory Jean Piaget s Cognitive Development Theory describes four
stages of human development which he described as naturally emerging reasoning
and development. The first two stages can be described as sensori motor
development. In all stages of development, the child learns to adapt, assimilate, and

Vygotsky described three forms of language: external communication, private speech
(the bridge between external and inner speech), and private speech underground or
inner speech. External communication occurs until about age three which children
maintain a running monologue. This suggests child s speech keeps him/her focused
on their thought. Private speech occurs around age 6 when they begin to mouth or
sub vocalize their speech. The private speech functions to facilitate thought processes,
overcome obstacles, and develop imagination. He believed that inner speech was

child development. They both thought children are naturally curious and were active
in their own learning development. Both theorists believed children were born with

A new husband and a beautiful bride share their first dance together on their wedding
day. Moments before the dance the new husband was in the coat room, having sex
with the maid of honor. Meanwhile, the beautiful bride was in the kitchen with her
high school sweetheart, on her back trying not to make any noise while she had sex
with her high school sweetheart. The sanctity of the new marriageis broken. However,
both will go on in the marriage for the next few months until it collapses. The new
couple had no idea of what a traditional marriage is meant to be. Marriage has been
many things throughout history but, some constants have maintained throughout
time until current society. Marriage has maintained an identity of love, commitment,

Americans draw social cues from movies and television. When the media that
Americans watch is showing that affairs are acceptable to participate in, then more
people will engage in affairs. Movies are not the only means of media to glorify
infidelity. Television furthers the acceptance of infidelity with shows like ABC s
Mistress. The show follows the affairs of four married women and how these
affairs lead the woman down a path of self discovery. What the show conveys to
the audience is an image that affairs are acceptable. The danger of entertainment
that shows the acceptance of infidelity is that the acceptance of infidelity becomes
reality. The reality then becoming relationships being formed with the intent of
those involved being unfaithful. The breakdown of marriages caused by the
images and messages portrayed in our entertainment is slowly deteriorating the
identity of marriages. As the identity of marriages is degraded by entertainment
other media sources display the growing acceptance if infidelity. News stations, a
form of media trusted by many Americans, will display urgent segments on the
affairs of political leaders. When President Bill Clinton professed his guilt of
having a sexual affair with Monica Lewinski the American public initially
disapproved. However, according to a poll conducted by gallup.com President
Clinton s approval rating has been steadily increasing despite his public affair. The

Dream Reader Anthony Shafton Analysis
Everyone has dreams, but not all are remembered. However, some stay with us for a
lifetime. Many people, like Joseph and Pharaoh, from have vivid dreams they cannot
shake from their thoughts upon waking from a deep slumber. They are left filled with
confusion and apprehension. These lucid thoughts lead, not only them but also us to
wonder the meaning behind dreams and their purpose in our lives. Dreams are here to
enlighten our minds to unconscious needs, profound internal thought, and self
discovery.
All individuals have insufficiencies; it is essentially what makes them human.
Anthony Shafton, the author of Dream Reader, wrote a book describing the different
theories of understanding and translating dreams. He focuses on nightmares first in
his writing and views them as a place to see deeply into a person s subconscious.
Harold Ellis said, the worst dreams are really the best for you (Shafton 500). This is
because they bring out the courage in us. According to Shafton, your ... Show more

changes in appetite, and mood swings. I reached a point when I could no longer

that supposedly coincide with extreme stress levels just as I had

The Different Gender Roles In The Salem Witch Trials
Salem Witch Trials was a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of
witchcraft in the Salem Village of the 17th century New England. The trials caused
executions of many people, mostly women. Salem Witch Trials exposed the
different gender roles during the seventeenth century. Women were supposed to
take on wifely duties such as, be mothers and housewives. Women were taught to
follow the men. There were strict religious norms during the seventeenth century.
There was rigid moral code believed that God would punish sinful behavior. Those
who were under the covenant by the church of the Salem Village believed that
Satan would select those to fulfill his work and those who followed Satan were
considered witches. Witchcraft was considered a punishable crime. Salem Witch
Trials revealed that gender played a role for the accused and accusers. The trials
also revealed that one s relationship with God will set deliverance from Satan s
attacks. Salem Witch Trials demonstrated how rumors, jealousy, and the idea of
male dominance affected people of the Salem Village. Seventeenth Century America
revealed there was male dominance over women. Men were in charge of the
Church. Samuel Parris was the ordained minister of the church. Parris was appointed
to bring God back to the Salem Village. Samuel Parris governed the Church by
remaining old fashioned and conservative, he did this by following the Old Covenant.
The Old Covenant allowed only children of covenant members be

Gwendolyn Brooks We Real Cool Essay
Gwendolyn Brooks We Real Cool
The poem We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks is a stream of the thoughts of poor
inner city African Americans who have adopted a hoodlum lifestyle. Though many
can have different interpretations of this poem, it is fair to look at the life and career
or the works and influences of Gwendolyn Brooks.
The life and art of the black American poet, Gwendolyn Brooks, began on June 7,
1917 when she was born in Topeka, Kansas. She was the first child of Keziah
Corine Wims and David Anderson Brooks. When she was four, her family moved to
their permanent residence on Champlin Avenue in Chicago. Her deep interest in
poetry consumed much of her early life. For instance, Brooks began rhyming at the
age of seven. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After a lifetime of skilled verse writing, Brooks died of cancer in December 2000
when she was 83 years old.
The works of Gwendolyn Brooks has gone through several changes throughout her
career. When she first published in 1945, she was eager to be understood by
strangers. In her last two poetical collections, however, she has dumped that
attitude and gone ?black?. Her change then led her from a major publishing house
to smaller black ones. While some critics found an angrier tone in her work,
elements of protest had always been present in her writing. Her poetry moves from
traditional forms including sonnets, ballads, variations of the Chaucerian and
Spenserian stanzas, and the rhythm of the blues to the most unrestricted free verse.
To sum up, the popular forms of English poetry appear in her work, but there is
some testing as she puts together lyric, narrative, and dramatic poetic forms. In her
narrative poetry, the stories are simple but usually go beyond the restrictions of
place. In her dramatic poetry, the characters are often memorable because they are
everyday survivors not heroes. Her characters are drawn from the underclass of the
nation s black slums. Like many urban writers, Brooks has recorded the impact of
city life. However, aside from most committed naturalists, she does not entirely blame
the city for what happens to people. The city is simply an existing force with which
people must deal with. The most dominant theme in Brooks?s work is the

The Socialization And Dilution Of Marxist Theory Essay
The Socialization and Dilution of Marxist Theory in the Post WWII Era In
Antonio Gramsci s Hegemonic Theory in The Prison Notebooks, the Neo Marxist
ideology of cultural and social monopolies is the underlying source of bourgeoisie
corruption and economic dysfunction. Gramsci s view of capitalist fascist ideology
had failed to understand the complexity of capitalism as a system that dominated
academia, the mass media, and other forms of institutionalization that co opted
Marxist leftists movements in the economic booms of the 1970s and 1980s: An
analysis, for instance, of how the conservative regimes of Margaret Thatcher in
England and Ronald Reagan in the United States in the late 1970s and early 1980s
won power would dissect how conservative groups gained dominance through
control of the state, and the use of media, new technologies, and cultural institutions
such as think tanks and fund raising and political action groups (Kellner, 2005, p.6).
In this theory, Gramsci defined the social and cultural aspects of education, mass
media, and other cultural forms of think tank operations led by elites in the capitalist
classes, which negates the underlying power of capital that simply purchased these
ideologies and moderated them for the benefit of the bourgeoisie. Gramsci s Neo
Marxist ideology shows the variability of social and cultural forces, which denies the
economic materialism of Marx s underlying lying theory of ownership, production,
and propaganda generated by

Abstract
Since the invention of the first computer, engineers have been conceptualizing and
implementing ways to optimize system performance. The last 25 years have seen a
rapid evolution of many of these concepts, particularly cache memory, virtual
memory, pipelining, and reduced set instruction computing (RISC). Individual each
one of these concepts has helped to increase speed and efficiency thus enhancing
overall system performance. Most systems today make use of many, if not all of
these concepts. Arguments can be made to support the importance of any one of

This would mean programmers would have to edit their code every time they
changed machines or added more memory (Lemley, 1999). Early computers had
small amounts of RAM because storage technology was very expensive.
Programmers had to store master copies of programs on a secondary storage
system and pull pieces into RAM as needed. The process of deciding which pieces
to pull and which parts of RAM to replace was called overlaying (Denning, 2012). It
was estimated that most programmers spent half to two thirds of their time planning
overlay sequences. A reliable method of automating it had potential to increase
programmer productivity and reduce debugging by several fold (Denning, 2012).
Thus, the concept of virtual memory was born. This concept makes use of the
computer s hard drive when main memory runs out. However, the hard drive is
significantly slower than RAM so we want to keep most of the program
functioning in RAM thus specialized hardware and software is needed to give the
illusion of unlimited available fast memory (Lemley, 1999). This hardware
converts a virtual address to a physical address in memory. Aside from virtually
increasing memory size, virtual memory also provided three additional benefits, it
isolated users from each other, it allowed dynamic relocation of program pieces
within RAM, and it provided read write access control to individual pieces (Denning,
2012). It is for these

Reflection On Technology And Technology
Since I have been learning more about technology and taking online classes, my
neighbor has enlisted me in helping to improve her business. Ruth is my seventy
year old neighbor, who is hoping to update some of her technological devices as well
as use technology to organize financial data of the business. The thought of learning
about new technologyscares her and she trusts me to be able to point her in the right
direction. Currently, Ruth runs a greenhouse where she sells flowers and some
vegetables.
The first thing Ruth shows me is her computer. She is utilizing her computer as
permanent storage for pertinent banking documents that she has acquired over the
years. She uses her computer to research new popular plant species to cultivate for
the season and see what her competitors are offering. Right away, I can tell that her
computer is outdated. She even mentions that her computer is from the early 2000
s. By technology standards, her computer is ancient. She complains that her
computer is slow and will often freeze. With a faster computer and updated
software, she will be able to expedite her normal tasks executed on the computer.
She also mentions some issues with her keyboard and monitor that serve as
peripheral devices connected to her computer. Ruth says that the monitor screen will
turn black when she is in the middle of something and that she will have to hit the
monitor a couple of times to make the screen light up again. I noticed that her video

The Hardest Job That I Have Ever Had Changed My Life
The hardest job that I have ever had in my life that required a lot of my time and

not going to speak about the present, only my past life of raising my three sons. I
have always worked but there was a time that I had to stop working in order to
focus on my twins. I knew from the age of 1 year old, something just wasn t quite
right with their behavior and cognitive development was lacking in a lot of areas.
For example; not talking, just babbling and pointing at objects, loud noises caused
them to shut down and cover their ears, lining up objects and any little disturbance
in their routine caused them to have a tantrum or screaming fit. It was so hard
trying to get answers from doctors, their favorite thing to say to me was it s a twin
thing they will grow out of it. This was the beginning of a long hard road. The
three most enjoyable things that I liked about this job is: Investigating, finding out
what was wrong with my sons? Why are they behaving in this manner? I was
relentless in finding out and I didn t stop until I received all the right answers. I
finally started getting answers, first I found out that they had a sleeping disorder, so
they was put on sleeping pills, my thought was YES, I will know get sleep! The
second diagnoses was ADHD, which explained the bouncing off the walls, floors

To What Extend Are Electronic Communication Networks More Advantageous Than
The Traditional Face To Face Trading Practice?
Introduction Financial markets arrange exchange of ownership and use right on
specific instruments. Electronic communication network (ECN) is one type of
exchange in financial market. It displays numbers on a screen and automatically
and quickly matches bids and offers of contracts at best available prices desired by
traders (Hendershott, 2003). For instance, Attain and Island. A bid is a price that a
trader is willing to buy a financial instrument, like currency. An offer is the price a
trader is willing to sell a financial instrument. Before the invention of ECNs, the
traditional face to face trading practiced on the trading floor, also called open outcry,
played the main role in financial market as it allows traders to see each other and
hear all the bids and offers available at the trading hall during the certain trading
time (Zaloom, 2003). Although ECNs has taken place of the role of open outcry in
many markets since 1980s, some markets are still using open outcry. Hence, we need
discover the driving forces of using ECNs rather than using open outcry and
understand reasons the open outcry still remains in some markets.
Distance between traders and markets ECNs reduce distance between traders and
markets. ECNs directly match buyers and sellers without uses of human intermediary,
such as dealers. ECNs deliver all the information of markets

How Did The Soviet Union Affect Poland
The Soviet Union was intent on taking over more and more countries in Eastern
Europe in order to spread the concept of Communism. After World War II, twenty
million Russians died during the war, and Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet
Union wanted to make changes. He wanted to create a buffer zone of friendly
countries around the Soviet Unionto make sure they would never again be invaded.
His goal was to takeover Eastern Europe. The Soviet Union s takeover of Eastern
European countries such as Poland, Hungary, and Romania had a negative impact on
these countries because the economy and the general welfare of the citizens suffered.

The Baby Boomers rarely complain about their work load or other members of staff.
Baby boomers tend to be more diligent on the job and prefer a more stable working
environment (Loomis, 2000). The Baby boomers tend to work hard and are
generally loyal to their employer. Baby boomers are willing and expecting to work
with others. In term of leadership style, Baby boomers accept the chain of
command. In addition, they expect their managers to give direction and to lead them
towards organizational goals. They prefer teamwork directed by leaders in positional
authority, and a task oriented leadership style. Baby boomers are however, not highly
technologically savvy, nor do they generally like change ( Raths, 1999).
1.2 Generation X
Born between 1965 and 1980, Generation X has strong ties to the Baby Boomers,
but grew up in more prosperous times. As children, this generation was busy
playing outside with their friends home was a place for dinner and sleep. They
share a sense of respect and duty similar to their older counterparts, and also prefer

to keep home and work separate. However, they are more comfortable using
technology even though their lack of formative education in IT means that most are
self taught or have developed their skills in the workplace. They had a colour TV at

My Personal Thoughts On Children s Development
Over the past few weeks through numerous discussions, debates, the use of videos,
documentaries and even experiencing some play ourselves we have looked the
many different issues within early childhood and analysed these through a number
of different perspectives and theories. Throughout this essay I will reflect on how
my thinking has changed and been shaped by these discussions over these few
weeks and how this new knowledge will impact my future regarding children and
the approach I may choose to take when working with them. This essay is
primarily a focus on the key person who work with a small number of children and
will be there to help not only when they first start school but throughout their time
together and who also inform the child s parents of how they handing school life,
any progress they have made since starting and any problems they seem to be
having. I will discuss my own personal thoughts and feelings towards this role in a
children s setting and whether I agree that this is necessary in helping children
adjust to the school environment and encourages the child s development not only
educationally but socially as well. During discussions early on I was unaware of the
role of a key person and their importance during a child s transition from the home
environment to an early years setting. The Early years setting is considered a place
that gives children a chance to become involved in different relationships with people
which differ to those relationships

The Spectroscopy Lab Centralized On The Properties Of
Waves
The spectroscopy lab centralized on the properties of waves and they relate to the
emission spectrum, however one must understand the Bohr model of the atom first.
The Bohr model for the atom depicts a planetary like structure, with a positively
charged nucleus in the center with small, negatively charged electrons rotating
around in specific, fixed orbits at different distances from the nucleus. When an
electrontransitions from a higher orbital, where it is in its excited state, back down
to a lower orbital where it is relaxed or in its ground state, it emits light. The emitted
light is a result of the electron releasing the previously absorbed energy. It is
possible to observe an electron in one state or another, however an electron never
possesses the capability to be observed in between states. Transitions between states
that are closer together, produce a light of lower energy transitions of a longer
distance.
A spectroscope is able to display the emitted light by presenting the bright interference
patterns of the diverse wavelengths which make up the spectrum. By looking through
the eyepiece, a spectrum will appear on either side of the slit the slit starts all of the
light waves passing down the tube in phase so that they arrive at the slits in the
diffraction grating at the same time. When wavelengths are in phase, they create
constructive interference, which results in double the amplification, while wave
lengths that are out of phase produce destructive

Using Polystyrene ( Ps ) Standards For Calibration Essay
Introduction: Polyimides are high performance polymers with excellent electrical
properties, high thermal stability, and high strength and stiffness at elevated
temperatures. They also have a high chemical resistance and are therefore typically
not soluble in common solvents. Because of solubility issues the molecular weight
(MW) and molecular weight distribution (MWD) of polyimides is near impossible
to obtain and in some cases the data listed is based on soluble precursors to the
particular polyimide of interest. These precursors are typically only soluble in amide
solvents and because of this the results obtained are questionable due to strong
interactions that the polymer, mobile phase/eluent, and stationary phase/column have
with one another due to the polyelectrolyte effect. This article aims to determine MW
and MWD of polyimides via gel permeation chromatography(GPC) by using solution
imidization and thus not having to deal with the occurrence of the polyelectrolyte
effect. Therefore, the overall objective of this paper is to establish the proper
chromatographic conditions required to carry out this analysis with the use of
polystyrene (PS) standards for calibration.
Experimental:
Polyimide samples were prepared in N methylpyrrolidine (NMP) by using a step
wise reaction and end capping with m ethynylaniline in order to control the
molecular weight. Via this process, theoretical molecular weights of 5000, 10000,
and 15000 g/mol were achieved and analyzed with the

The Developing Person Through The Life Span
Losing A Loved One Will Result A Person To Mature
Death is very hard to understand. Even adults have a tough time coping with their
loved one s death what more a child or a teenager finding out that his father will not
be around anymore. According to Kathleen Berger in the book called The
Developing Person Through The Life Span, she believes that Adolescents find way to
vent their grief to express their personal identity concerns and control their anxiety
about death by taking risks (Berger 2014). I absolutely agree with Berger s research
about how adolescents react to death because it is exactly how I felt and reacted
during those times that my father was at the verge of death. Sons are normally close
with their father and as the fourth child of the family, I was very close with my father.
He disciplined us in a way that a child would understand and up until now that s the
method I use to raise my kids. The road that lead me to maturity took me a lot of
time to recover from my father s death, how I coped during the times that he was not
with us anymore and how I had to snapped out of my outrageous activity to notice
that I was not the only one hurting.
March 1987, my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It was very hard to
believe and accept that he was ill. He was only 58 years old after all and I just started
my first year of college at the age of 17 years old. Prostate cancer did not wait a long
time to take our father away from us. Six months after he was

Disney Swot Analysis
Discussion
Strength
Strength is a positive aspect internal to your business. Firstly, Walt Disney
Company has strong product portfolio. Walt Disney s products include broadcast
television network ABC and cable networks such as Disney Channel or ESPN,
which is one of the most watched cable networks in the world. Combining the large
audience reach of these cable networks, (ESPN has nearly 300 million and Disney
Channel 240 million subscribers) and the solid growth of cable television, Disney s
product portfolio provides a competitive advantage for the company over its
competitors.
Secondly, high brand reputation of Walt Disney Company. The company brand has

Subsequently, this company has expands its movie production to new countries.
Disney has an opportunity to expand its movie production to such countries as India
or China, where movie production industries have developed good quality
infrastructure. This would result in lower movie making costs and more localized
movies for India and China s markets.
Threats
Threats are challenges created by an unfavorable trend may lead to decrease revenues
or profits. Intense competition is a Disney s threat. Disney operates in very
competitive industries such as media, tourism, parks and resorts, interactive
entertainment and others. The competitive background changes quite radically in the
media industry, where news and TV go online and new competitors with new
business models compete more successfully than incumbent media companies.
Disney s parks and resorts business segment also receives strong competition from
local competitors who can offer better adapted product. This results in growing
competitive pressure for Walt Disney Company.
Also, increasing piracy of Disney s products. The advancements in technology allow
copying, transmitting and distributing copyrighted material much easier. With an
increasing number of internet users and the speed of internet, this poses a great
risk to Disney s income, as fewer people would go to watch movies in a cinema or
buy its DVD, when it s freely available online.
Finally regulatory

disturbed with the thought of having Robert in his home, especially since he is a

judgment shows that he thinks of Robert on a highly shallow level, which
demonstrates, similar to all his other negative characteristics, that he doesn t
experience the depth of reality. When Robert actually arrives, the narratorfeels
awkward and hardly speaks with him, as he doesn t know what to have a
conversation about. When he does speak up, however, he asks questions and
discusses statements that one would have the decency not to discuss with the
disabled. The narrators personality consists of ignorance and immaturity that portrays
his lack of empathy as he suggests activities like going bowling (3). In a sense, the

He is socially oblivious of what Robert experiences with his physical abnormality,

protagonist lacks dimension and the depth of reality, he achieves his epiphany after a
series of perceptual blows that clobber him to his preconceived notions, which allows

The Central Theme Of Secrecy In Lanval By Marie De
France
Some people keep secrets in order to keep the peace, to keep the happiness, and to
keep others safe. There are many people in the world who feel that keeping a secret
is wrong or may feel disrespected because a person is not being open and honest
with them. Everyone has a different perspective of the influence secrets have on
people. Medieval author, Marie De France, wrote the story of Lanval which tells the
story of a knight who must keep his love with the woman of his dreams a secret or he
will lose her forever. Secrecyis the central theme of Marie De France s story. The
theme of secrecy in this story adds to the dramatic effect of passion that the
characters share with one another. This essay will examine how the theme of
secrecy in Marie De France s Lanval was an essential component to the story, how
the choices made by the characters affected the plot, and how secrecy contributes to
the entire meaning of the work. Lanval tells the story of one of King Arthur s
knights, who is described as being brave, kind, handsome, and very... Show more

This story is focused around keeping secrets and what could happen if a secret is
revealed. The mistress wanted Lanval to keep their love and happiness a secret
from the outside world because she wanted to protect him. She knew what would
happen if their love was not kept a secret and she wanted to prevent the event from
ever happening. This story presents secrecy in a way that is considered good and
true. Secrecy in the story was used to teach Lanval a lesson about the pervasive
world that they live in. When the mistress comes to save him Lanval learns why
she did not want the world to know about them. It is because she did not want the
cruel and unjustness of the world to be involved in their relationship in any way,
shape, or form. Lanval feels a sense of relief once he is rescued by his love he even
responds to the rescue by saying I am cured by her (Greeblatt,

It also gave some indication of the wealth and prosperity of the monastery and, inside,
would probably commemorate patrons who provided sustained support to the
community. The most precious human remains in a monastic church were the relics
of saints preserved in shrines behind the high altar. The Church became a center for
learning, with the monks becoming cultural carriers transmitting the written treasures
of the past by preserving and copying ancient texts. An example of this would be
Hrotsvit. Hrotsvit wrote books about Christian legends and wrote Roman dramas with
an Christian spin to it. Often, the only literate members of society were the monks
/priest. It was the monks who made and transmitted written copies of the Bible and
other ancient works from generation to generation. They organized some of the first
libraries. They conducted scientific and other research to benefit the surrounding
communities. They were expert farmers who were able to pass on the benefits of
their expertise to peasants on the large manors. Monasticism has played a vital role in
the creation, preservation, and transmission of culture. This is especially true of the

Then there are the others, the ones who this happens to constantly, night after
night, sometimes even being so exhausted that you still can t sleep. I have been in
both of those situations and let me tell you, it sucks....terribly. I have compiled
some ideas that i have tried and worked for me, maybe they might help you! Adults
typically need 6 8 hours of sleep a night. To find out what time you need to go to
bed to achieve this count backwards from the time you need to get up. Ex : If you
need to get up at 6am, 5 4 3 2 1 12 11 10, then you need to go to bed between 10 and
12. Routine: Setting up a routine that you do before you go to bed gets your mind
ready for bed too. Wind down with some hot tea ( decaf of course!! ), there are a
ton of flavors and types out there ( my favorite is peach tranquility, from teavana,
but any kind will work, you don t have to go with a loose tea.).If you don t like tea,
find something warm to drink that is decaf, maybe warm milk. Sit down and relax
while you drink it, preferably somewhere comfortable and soft, not your bed
though, couch or a lounge chair. NO TV or COMPUTER!!! I will repeat, do not
use your computer or watch tv, both of these keep your mind from wanting to fall
asleep, it keeps your mind active and will cause you to toss and turn for hours!
Change into your bed

The Dumas Portrait Quotes
The best quote for me that I chose was They wanted to know about more important
things, such as camels. How many did we own back home? What did we feed
them? Was it a bumpy ride? This quote means people are trying to get facts from
people so they know more of the important things. For example, they asked them
about facts about camels like where they got them and how many there was. This
quote adds to the Dumas portrait and how the child points to herself in it because,
the girl looks at herself and she can see how she grew up and how she got to this part
of life. This quote also relates to her and her familyand their relationship and their
community in California because, she grows and her family grows and they go along

Navy Seal Essay
The Navy Seals began as early as World War II. Volunteers from the Naval
Construction Battalions (SeaBees) were organized into special teams called Navy
Combat Demolition Units (NCDUs). The units were assigned the task of exploring
and clearing beach obstacles for troops going to land ashore. Combat Swimmer
Exploration teams were established during this time. The Navy SEALs are trained to
operate in all environments such sea, air and land. This is where the name SEALs
originated. The United StatesNavy acknowledged the need for landing on beaches
and coastal areas. The Scouts and Raiders were established in 1942 prior to the
attack on Pearl Harbor from the Observer Group, a joint U.S. Army Marine Navy

Navy SEALs were established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962 as a small,
elite maritime military force to conduct Unconventional Warfare. The Navy SEAL
Teams were designed as the maritime counterpart to the Army Special Forces Green

Navy utilized UDT personnel to form separate units called SEAL teams. January
1962 marked the commissioning of SEAL Team ONE in the Pacific Fleet and SEAL

Review on the Movie Crash
FILM SYNOPSIS:
In Crash, a simple car accident forms an uncompromising foundation for the complex
discovery of race and prejudice. Paul Haggis overwhelming and incredibly thought
provoking directorial debut succeeds in bringing to the forefront the behaviours that
many people keep under their skin. And by thrusting these attitudes toward us with a
highly deliberate, reckless abandon, Haggis puts racism on the highest pedestal for
our review. There is no better place for this examination than the culturally diverse
melting pot of modern day Los Angeles. In just over 24 hours, Crash brings together
people from all walks of life. Two philosophizing black men steal the expensive SUV

Crash is a film of collisions: vehicles, personalities, attitudes, stereotypes, conventions,
and ultimately audience expectations. We crash into each other, just so we can feel
something, Don Cheadle murmurs contemplatively in a clunky opening scene thesis
statement that nevertheless sums up the film s approach as well as its premise.
Writer director Paul Haggis definitely wants you to feel something, and spends the
rest of the film doing his best to blindside your expectations, spin your emotions
around and overturn your preconceptions. The content can be incredibly harsh at
times, with constant obscenity and a number of deeply wrenching scenes. Yet Crash
looks at our obsession with race and raises some sensitive issues with startling
frankness.
Is a man who risks his life to save another any less a hero if he is also a bigot? How
do you weigh one against the other, or average out the two to define the overall
moral worth of the man? Neither detracts from or cancels out the other; they are both
simply sheer facts about a person, with no way to mediate or relate them to one
another, other than the fact that they are convincingly predicated of one and the same
person.
Still, the film finds real moral ambiguity in the struggles of a number of characters,
above all Cheadle s detective, who wrestles with various personal and professional
issues and above all wishes to keep them separate. Crash is a provocation,

Empowerment Of Women In The Bean Trees
During the late 1970 s in the United States, women were advocating against an
engrained system of male superiority and inequality. Expected to be housewives who
depended on their husbands, thousands of women came together and organized
marches and protests that brought awareness to the abuse and misogyny that
women were subjected to. Taylor Greer, Lou Anne, and Mattie are all examples of
this new generation of self reliant and empowered women who break boundaries and
stereotypes. Taylor s strong confidence, Lou Anne s relationship with Taylor and
ability to help her raise their kids, and business owner Mattie s independence and

The United States Involvement Of The Spanish American
War
During the twentieth century the United States of America became involved with
three major conflicts that resulted in the nation shifting from a regional power into a
global power. Through these conflicts the United States grew territorially,
economically and industrially. Foreign policies were altered to allow the United States
to gain ground on the world stage and to make their mark on the world. Through
careful analysis of primary sources and scholarly document s it is clear to see that
the United States involvement in the Spanish American war was the first step for the
United States to grow on the world stage. The American victory in the war led to the
acquisition of island territories and expanded economic and military capabilities in
the both the western and eastern hemisphere as well as an increased involvement in
Asia. World War Iended with American democratic ideals to be spread all across
Europe. Led by President Woodrow Wilson, the United States led a one sided
foreign policy that used intervention, peace treaties and military intervention to
endorse international order. Despite a limited role in the war President Wilson was
able to outline the Treaty of Versailles and the League of Nations and both of their
presences can be found today.
During the1890s, the United States showed little interest in foreign affairs. However,
following the rise of the industrial revolution in the United States American business
began to recognize the vast potential of the

Essay On Regulation Of Hate Speech
Everyone, except for me, within my English class are idiotic, tongue tied people
because they are in Professor Mason Boyer s English 100 course. Is saying this
considered to be my right of free speech as an individual, or hate speech? Hate
speech laws differ in many countries. In the United States, people try to create many
loops around the system so they can freely say they are expressing their 1st
Amendment right. Compared to Pakistan where a Pakistani Shia man jailed for 13
years for Facebook hate speech(Gabol). Many people believe that the United states
should keep, or even increase, its efforts to regulate hate speech to better the
country. The reason for the regulations may be right morally. However, regulation
of hate speech is not effective. To begin, many say regulation of hate speech is to
protect everyone from leading hate speech to hate crime. Recently, within this year,
there has been an expansion of the topic on police against blacks, vice versa. It
began as people accusing the police of being racist against blacks. This followed up
with a great amount of hate speech towards police on social media, such as YouTube,
Facebook and Twitter. This caused an uproar in hate speech... Show more content on

Students who will want to get a higher education will feel more threatened about
expressing their point of view because it may not be considered politically correct
(Uelmen). Regulating hate speech will limit what students can learn because there
will be a huge shield blocking them from reality. If students cannot express
themselves throughout their years of learning, how will they be able to learn what
is right from what is wrong? The students need to learn what examples are bad
from good, and what ideas should not be expressed as a form of negativity.
Regulation of hate speech will also reduce the amount of diversity, as it encourages
the idea of promoting a specific

Buddhism and the Practice of Zen
Suzuki Roshi was a Zen master who had no special theory or philosophy about the
Buddha Mind or any other subject, which made his ideas very elusive and
paradoxical, although he did not intend to come across as bizarre. In Zen Mind,
Beginner s Mind Zen, which was published before his death in 1971, he insisted that
Zen Buddhismis not a competition, dogmas or a series of theological points that can
be memorized but more a way of being. Thought or emotions cannot express the
Buddha Mind or Buddha Nature, but only meditation and contemplation of the
present moment. In reality, no past, present or future exist at all, but only the
universal oneness of the Buddha Mind and understanding of it cannot be attained
through struggle or setting artificial goals. Zen s reality is thoroughly grounded on
everyday life and routines like baking bread or watching a waterfall, which
symbolizes life. Through practice and meditation eventually students forget about the
self and the ego. Many people wrongly imagine that Zen is another religion, when it
is only a method of achieving Enlightenment. This was Buddha s real teaching, that
in order to overcome karma and the cycle of birth, death and rebirth, it is necessary
to overcome material desires, selfishness and ego and return to the primordial state
of Nirvana. Buddha was incarnated on earth for many lifetimes before he learned
how to overcome suffering and attachment to the body and the material sphere. He
was the first to see the universal

Causes And Effects Of The Dark Ages
The Dark Ages
The Dark Ages, described as a period in which many tragedies occurred in Europe,
was not so dark as it sounds; it was rather a time of important change across the
continent. With the collapse of the Roman Empire, which had controlled a majority
of Europe for centuries, local governments arose and dominated the region. The
Catholic church also survived the collapse, and its monasteries served as hospitals,
inns, and schools. New discoveries in technology, advances in farming, and resettling
increased Europe s population and made its economy prosperous. The rise of
independence, intelligence, and creativity lead to the Renaissance, a time of great
learning and art, thus making the Dark Ages an age of significant development.
The Roman Empire had control in Europe for hundreds of years, with little
competition in the region. Its size, however, made it difficult for the empire to
maintain laws across different locations. When the empire finally collapsed, local
governments became dominant in Europe. Now, no single government had full
power, so individual governments could create different laws based on the land and
people which belonged to them. Document 6 states that this localism created chaos in
the area since these governments were unable to stop the spreading violence. Yet, it
does not explain how miniscule these conflicts became compared to the wars waged
before. Because local governments were smaller, battles between different groups
were as small.

Art Reflection
For my art reflection, I visited the Detroit Institute of Arts on November 9, 2017. I
wanted to learn more about the pieces that were related to religion. I knew I would
be intrigued because when we think of the bible or hear storied about God, we
often create pictures in our head. Attending the DIA would expand my views of
how I perceive the things that I hear. I decided to do my paper on the Temptation of
St. Anthony (17th century) and The Miraculous Draught of Fishes. While these
works were beautiful, their story was even more amazing. The Temptation of St.
Anthony is an oil painting created in the 17th century by an unknown artist. It
portrays a group of people in a cave. There are many questionable characters in this
piece that could be viewed as possessive or demonic. There are creatures and
animals that have unpleasant features such as wicked eyes and large open mouths
with protruding teeth. All the animals have an evil appearance to them, including the
creature in the back, with wings and claws. Looking closer at the picture, an
individual that is painted has horns and he his holding the hand of an innocent,
beautiful woman. There is also a man, who appears to be holy, wearing a robe and
holding his hands together as if he is praying, with a book in front of him. I am
assuming this is Saint Anthony, reading the bible. The creatures are all looking at the
interaction between the woman and man with horns. They appear to be watching in
excitement and eagerness while

the women and their kids are horrified because they are afraid of the egwugwu. The

Uzowulu and Mgbafo said the egwugwu took their children. As this happens
Uzowulu will not return the bride price. This makes Mgbafo angry and she leaves
Uzowulu. He has to beg for her to return to him. The authors purpose for writing

death of Oguefi Ezeudu s death is announced to the entire village. Okonkwo
remembers that the last time he had spoken to Ezeudu, it was when Ezeudu wanted
to warn Okonkwo about Ikemefuna s death. The author writes this to foreshadow
Ezeudu s death. By killing a clansman it is a crime against the earth goddess.
Okonkwo must take him and his family into exile for seven years. With Okonkwo
killing Ezeudu s son is not just a coincidence. It is more like a punishment for
Ezeudu s violation of kinship

Distractions while Driving
Many people have lost their lives on the road and caused other s deaths because
they were distracted with doing something while driving. In 2012, 3,328 people
were killed in distraction related crashes ( Statistics on Texting Cell Phone Use
While Driving n.d.). Distractions while driving that result in these accidents include
texting/making a call or becoming intoxicated and having high blood alcohol
concentration. Many laws have been brought forth to help regulate the amount of
people drinking while driving and using a cell phone while driving. Not only do
people put their own lives in danger, they are also putting other s lives in danger.
People who take part in these distractions are not being responsible when making
these rash decisions while driving and creating a hazardous environment for those
around them.
Drinking and Driving
People like to go to parties and have fun all the time and what s a party without
alcohol, right? The problem with drinking at parties, however, is that many don t
know that they have become drunk and end up driving around after they leave the
party. Drunk driving is dangerous and those driving that have high blood alcohol
content or concentration (BAC) increases their risk of causing or being a part of
accidents such as vehicle crashes or highway injuries ( Driving, n.d.). The article
About Drunk Driving (n.d.) states that every 53 minutes on average, someone is
killed in a drunken driving crash and every 90 seconds, someone is injured.

Heart Failure and Western Countries Essay
Introduction
Heart failure is a major cause of morbidity and mortality affecting all Western
countries and represents a significant economic, social and healthcare burden.(1)
Approximately 1 2% of the population of the developed world has been diagnosed
with clinically significant heart failure, a gross underestimation. (2) Depending on
how the condition is defined, recent population studies estimate that between 3% and
9% of the adult population are affected by overt symptoms of heart failure.(3) An
additional and similar proportion of individuals surveyed exhibit a pre clinical silent
left ventricular dysfunction. (3) The incidence of which rises sharply among persons

Systolic and Diastolic Heart Failure
The pathophysiolgy underlying heart failure has evolved significantly over time. The
heart may be visualised as a pump, consisting of four chambers divided into atria and
ventricles further divided into right and left hemispheres.(14) Deoxygenated blood
from peripheral tissues is supplied through the right atria/ventricle to the lungs where
oxygenation through membranous perfusion occurs. Oxygenated blood returns
through the pulmonary veins into the left atria/ventricle where it is supplied to the
systemic/coronary circulation. This process occurs in two phases; systole and
diastole. (14)
Heart failure may affect either the systolic or diastolic phase of the cardiac cycle.
Alternatively, both phases may be involved. Conceptually it is useful to view this
heterogenous condition as a progressive disorder that has an initiating or index
event where damage is inflicted on the cardiac myocytes.(15) The index event can
be acute, such as may be the case in myocardial infarct, or chronic due to
haemodynamic pressure or volume overloading. Regardless of the mechanism of
injury a decline in pump function is the result. The initial insult will be compensated
for in the acute phase by activation of a complex sequence of neurohormonal
changes which are recognised to play a pivotal role in the development and
progression of heart failure.(15) Whilst
