Department of health research (DHR)

The President notified the creation of the Department of Health Research under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare through an amendment to the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961 on the 17th September , �   2007 The Department of Health Research was formally launched on 5th October 2007 by the Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences in a function presided over by the Minister for Health & Family Welfare, in the presence, inter-alia, of the Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare.

9. OBJECTIVE 1 . To initiate , aid, devlop & co-ordinate medical scientific research in india & to promote & assist institutions for the study of disease , their prevention , caution & remidy . 2 . Schemes to achieve the objectives - Promotion , co –ordination & development of basic , applied & clinical research - Under this scheme, the activities of the new Department will be geared towards promotion and co-ordination of basic, applied and clinical research including clinical trials and operational research in areas related to medical, health, biomedical and medical profession. 7/8/2016 Sagar Savale 11

13. I nter- sectoral co-ordination in medical, biomedical and health research - Under this scheme the Department will cover areas such as Health Technology management. Health Technology, Academia-Industry link. Innovation Promotion Fund. Advanced training in research in medicine and health Under this scheme the Department will initiate steps to develop Targeted research investments focused on emerging opportunities and challenges . 15. Under this scheme ; T he Department will oversee the activities of the Indian Council of Medical Research and assist it in strengthening and modernising it s existing infrastructure, setting up new institutes, expand its scientific and other manpower base and increase the quantum of support for extramural research. 16. FUNCTIONS Oversee the intramural activities of its Institutes/ Centres /Units. To focus on research towards innovation, their translation into products & processes and their introduction in public health services.
