WRITING CHAPTER I Division Seminar on the Used of SIP Manual ARIES B. MANALO Head Teacher III
OBJECTIVES 1. Identify a research problem 2. Formulate a hypothesis 3. Understand the different parts of a research paper 4. Determine the appropriate steps in designing and planning a research study
“I’LL LOOK INTO IT. I’LL GET BACK TO YOU ON THAT. I’LL GIVE YOU AN UPDATE.”
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Division Seminar on the Used of SIP Manual ARIES B. MANALO Head Teacher III
Clear presentation of the context of research A vivid discussion on how the researcher came out with the topic End it by stating the purpose of the study Identify the gaps or problems due to the circumstances presented BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Purpose Historical discussion of literature leading on the development on the purpose of your study 13
Questions 1. What is already known about the topic? 2. Is there gaps or problems seen on the topic presented? 3. What will you do to address the gaps/problems identified? 4. Is there a significance in addressing this gaps or problems? 5. What is your reason or rationale in addressing this gaps or problems?
ACTIVITY 1 LET'S TRACE THE HISTORY 1. Read the contents of a sample background of the study. 2. Arrange each content to trace the pattern in writing a good background of the study. 3. Cut each box to present your answer and discuss the pattern in writing a background of a study.
ACTIVITY 2 COMPLETE ME 1. Read the sample background of the study given. 2. Evaluate content of the sample background of the study. 3. Identify and supply the missing part on the sample background of the study given.
Effective writing of the background of the study requires a writer to cite literature to support his claims. In doing this the current Situation/Topic presented, the Problem/Problems identified, the Solution is given and the Purpose stated was strongly justified. In order for you to easily remember the basic requirement in writing the background of the study just think of the acronym SPSP 03

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Division Seminar on the Used of SIP Manual ARIES B. MANALO Head Teacher III
A GOOD PROBLEM; 1. Specific 2. Measurable 3. Attainable 4. Realistic 5. Time Bounded
ACTIVITY 3 WRITING STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM 1.Read the various situation given below. 2.Determine the variables in each situation. 3.Suggest a possible research title for each title. 4.Write a statement of the problem for each title created.
SITUATION 1 Sitophilus oryzae, locally known as bukbok in Philippines is one of the most destructive insect pests of stored grains particularly rice causing severe crop lost. The application of synthetic pesticides, aside from high cost poses harm and threat to human environment. With these concerns finding alternative source will be deemed necessary. According (Gonzales, Tolentino 2014) the bark of Acacia (Samanea saman) contains high percentage yield of alkaloids that them from pest and gracing animals. With this knowledge Jesus P. Monasterial decided to conduct a scientific investigation. Present what will be the title of the study and how the problem in this situation was stated.
SITUATION 2 One of the biggest challenges for blind people is to roam around or navigate unfamiliar places. Hence, their participation to some social and physical activities is limited. This makes them resort to either using a walking stick or having a friend or family member walk them around. Either way, this makes a walking stick a necessity for the blind. Using sensors and other technology the researchers thought of how the basic walking stick can be upgraded to be suited to the needs of the intended users. Write the title of the study and state its general and specific problem.
A GOOD PROBLEM; 1.It promotes further research or investigation. 2.It addressed gap in existing body of knowledge. 3.Ethical consideration was displayed in the problem. 4.Significant contribution to existing body of research were observed.
A GOOD PROBLEM; 5.The problem is suited in the interest, skills, and time of the researcher. 6.The problem should render itself to investigation through collection of data.

HYPOTHESIS Division Seminar on the Used of SIP Manual ARIES B. MANALO Head Teacher III
STEPS IN WRITING HYPOTHESIS 1. Identify/recall your research questions. 2. Search for Literature 3. Formulate the hypothesis
TYPES OF HYPOTHESIS Alternative Hypothesis/Directional Hypothesis – A hypothesis that shows relationship or association between variables. It is represented by this symbol H1 or Ha
EXAMPLE H1 - There is a significant difference on the amount of water absorbed by ABB blocks before and after testing.
TYPES OF HYPOTHESIS Null Hypothesis/Non-Directional Hypothesis – A hypothesis that shows no relationship or association between variables. It is represented by this symbol H0.
EXAMPLE H0 - There is no significant difference on the amount of water absorbed by ABB blocks before and after testing.
ACTIVITY 4 WRITING HYPOTHESIS From your stated problem in activity 3, state your null and alternative hypothesis in clear and concise sentence. Use the symbol for null and alternative to represent each hypothesis formulated.
“I DESERVE AN EXPLANATION. I DESERVE AN ACCEPTABLE REASON.”
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS Division Seminar on the Used of SIP Manual ARIES B. MANALO Head Teacher III
BRAND GUIDELINES 2025 SCOPE AND LIMITATION Answers that what, when, where, and who of the study SCOPE Identify the things that were not done in study and reason out why it was not done. lIMITATIONS 11
ACTIVITY 5 SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS Read the abstract of the study given List down the possible scope and limitation of the study. Using your lists write the complete scope and limitation of the study
“TO THE GREAT PEOPLE WE WILL BE.”
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY Division Seminar on the Used of SIP Manual ARIES B. MANALO Head Teacher III
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY Justify the needs of the study by Citing significant contribution of the study Explain how it will improved peoples life
ACTIVITY 6 JUSTIFIED WORK OBJECTIVE: RECOGNIZE THE PROCESS IN WRITING THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY . See your handouts for the procedure
“YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A SECOND-RATE, TRYING HARD COPYCAT!”
DEFINITIONS OF TERMS Division Seminar on the Used of SIP Manual ARIES B. MANALO Head Teacher III
DEFINITIONS OF TERMS CONCEPTUAL DEFINITIONS FUNCTIONAL /OPERATIONAL DEFINITION
WAYS TO DETERMINE THE WORDS TO BE DEFINED 1.Identify the variables and methods used in the study. 2.Make a concept maps for variables identified and methods used
WAYS TO DETERMINE THE WORDS TO BE DEFINED 3.Determine which of this word needs to be defined and would help a lot in understanding your work. 4.Arrange this word alphabetically and give its functional or operational definition.
