DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONLINE AIR RESERVATION SYSTEM PROJECT PROPOSAL BY: HASSAN ALIYU TAHIR ND/CSS/2022/0776 YAKUBU THANKGOD NANLE ND/CSS/2022/0777 AYIKI JOEL ANGAU ND/CSS/2022/0778 SUPERVISED BY: MR. TOLU IBITOLA MARCH,2024.

INTRODUCTION BACKGROUND OF STUDY A n online airline reservation system (Ordinary known as online reservation system) (ORS) is a web base application system used to store and retrieve information and conduct transactions related to air travel. Originally designed and operated by airlines, ORS were also extended for the use of the travel agencies. ( Aceituno (2020)). Major ORS operations are booking and selling of tickets for multiple airline by the means of banks, Airline have divested most of their direct holdings to dedicated banks, which make their system accessible to consumers through internet gateways. Modern ORS typically allow users to book hotel rooms and rent cars as well as airline tickets. They also provide access to railway reservation in some markets although these are not always integrated with the main system. (M, Begg E and Strachan D (2017)).

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS 1. Flights are overbooked due to data conflicts where many staffs are or make reservation without proper records. 2. Loss of data occurs as staffs under pressure records information on pieces of paper and fails to remember where such paper is kept. 3. Operation materials are not always available like in the case of seat numbers which are sticker made. These are not always available and make the company not have an idea of how many seat sold, especially in rush hour.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY AIM To design and implementation of an online airline reservation system. OBJECTIVES The basic aims and objectives of the proposed system are to: To secure record (data) from unauthorized use. To improve quick and prompt response to user request. Easy retrieval of passenger records and information at given time.

SIGNFICANCE OF THE STUDY To do away with overbooking problems and transit problems. To keep record, base on ticket sales and give an overall account of tickets sold nationwide. Also to provide data backup. Increase data processing and operation speeds. Reduce the cost in telephone communication and materials printing. Improve customer confidence and lock-out competitors.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY The project will cover the administrator’s activity of passengers’ records. Other managerial issues such as, employees’ records are terminated out of the project, The project is only confined to the passengers records including flight schedules, ticket prices, ticket schedules for Gen. Yakubu Gowon airport, Heipang ,Jos-Plateau state.

DEFINITION OF TERMS Design : Refers to the process of conceptualizing and planning the structure, functionality, and user interface of the software system. Implementation : Implementation involves the actual coding and development of the software system based on the design specifications. It includes writing the necessary code, integrating different modules, and testing the system to ensure that it performs as intended. Airline : is a company that carries passengers in a plane. Airport : is a station that consist a buildings and air fields used to house. Reservation : Is an arrangement you make so that in a place of hotel and plane. System: The collection of interrelated components, which interact regularly to perform task .
