Difference Between Adjective and Adverb Understand How They Describe Words
What is an Adjective? An adjective describes or modifies a noun or pronoun. It gives more information about a person, place, or thing. Examples: - The tall building - She is happy
What is an Adverb? An adverb describes or modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb. It tells how, when, where, or to what extent. Examples: - He runs quickly - She is very happy
How Adjectives Work They describe 'what kind', 'which one', 'how many'. Example: - The red apple (what kind?) - Five students (how many?)
How Adverbs Work They describe 'how', 'when', 'where', 'to what extent'. Examples: - She sings beautifully (how?) - He arrived yesterday (when?) - They looked everywhere (where?)
Key Differences Adjective modifies: Noun or Pronoun Adverb modifies: Verb, Adjective, or another Adverb Adjective answers: Which? What kind? How many? Adverb answers: How? When? Where? How often? To what extent?
Examples for Clarity Adjective: - She has a fast car. ('fast' describes the car) Adverb: - She drives fast. ('fast' describes how she drives)
More Examples Adjective: - He is a careful driver. ('careful' describes the driver) Adverb: - He drives carefully. ('carefully' describes how he drives)
