Usually , the connections between computers in a network are made using physical wires or cables. However , some connections are wireless , using radio waves or infrared signals

Depending on ion the geographical area covered by a network by a network there are various types of computer networks which are as follows :- Personal Area Network (PANs) Local Area Network (LANs) Metropolitan Area Network (MANs) Wide Area Network (WANs)

7. PERSONAL AREA NETWORK (PANs) A personal area network (PAN) is a computer network used for communication among computer and different information technological devices close to open person. Is a small network established for communication between different devices such as laptops , computers , mobiles and PADs . A pan may include wired or wireless devices. The range of pan is less then three meters.

Typically , connected devices share the resources of a single processor or server within a small geographic area. A local area network may serve as few as two or three users or as many as thousand of speakers.

11. METROPOLITAN AREA NETWORK (MANs) MAN is larger than LAN. It is spread cross a city . Since it covers a city. It is created by connecting two or more LANs located in a city . It is smaller than area covered by WAN. Cable television branches of a local bank in city are common examples of MAN.

They are linked by communication facilities like telecommunication or satellite signals.
