WRITING
STYLES

A style of writing that blends
elements of fiction and non-fiction
to tell a story that is both true and
engaging.
Example: “Write a profile on a
famous chef, blending storytelling
and factual information.”
CREATIVE
NONFICTION

WHY NONFICTION IS
AN EXCEPTIONAL
FORM
Because it gives the writer a great deal of
leeway, creative nonfiction is a unique type of
academic writing. Writing creative nonfiction is
not an exact science, and for some people, it
might be intimidating. We'll attempt to highlight
a few of the liberties that creative nonfiction
provides in this section.

POETRY
Poetry is a kind of writing that is usually
written in verse and use figurative
language—words or phrases that have
meanings that differ from what is literally
said—to give words or phrases numerous
meanings. Poems with organised forms
include sonnets, limericks, and haikus.

Poetry is a way to communicate. While reading it
inspires us to connect and derive meaning from our
experiences, writing it allows us to express our
thoughts and feelings about a subject. Children's
learning of social and emotional skills can benefit
from poetry. It can give them a fresh perspective on a
certain issue.
WHAT IS POETRY AND
WHY IS IT
IMPORTANT?

NARRATIVE
There are numerous instances of story
employed as a noun if you seek for them. The
majority of first-person writing is narrative in
nature. A narrative book is one that is written
from the viewpoint of the main character. Your
summer vacation essay, "What I did on my
summer vacation," was a story.

WHY
NARRATIVE
IS
IMPORTANT
?
The narrative plays a crucial role
in defining our identities as a
society and as individuals. Our
stories help people grasp who we
are and our experiences,
histories, and humanity. Stories
are fundamental to our past as a
people and our ability to interact
with one another. May

APA STYLE DEFINITION
The author's last name and the year of
publication are used in APA in-text citations, for
instance: Field, 2005. Include the page number
when using direct quotations, such as this:
(Field, 2005, p. 14). Use a paragraph number for
sources without page numbers, such as websites
and e-books.

Using APA Style not only makes editing easier
by requiring everyone to follow the same
format for a given publication, but it also
facilitates reader comprehension by giving
texts a recognisable structure.

When a story is composed entirely of letters, diary entries, or
these days even emails or blog posts, it is known as an epistolary
style. The most famous authors of epistolary novels include Jean-
Jacques Rousseau and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Jane
Austen also experimented with an entirely epistolary form in her
early days, and though her novels are not entirely epistolary,
she’s a good example of someone who makes character
correspondence an important part of her fictional work.

One of the most popular kinds of writing
is explanatory writing. An author's goal
while writing in an expository style is to
convey knowledge from oneself to a
larger readership by simply explaining an
idea. Expository writing concentrates on
established facts about a subject, such
as statistics or other supporting data,
rather than the author's opinions.
EXPOSITORY

EXAMPLES OF
EXPOSITORY WRITING
•Textbooks
•How-to articles
•Recipes
•News stories (not editorials or Op-Eds)
•Business, technical, or scientific writing
