Vector Graphics Give a definition of Vector Graphics Vector graphics are images that can edited without loosing any resolution. They are used if you want to edit your work without have to create a larger file size.
Raster Graphics
JPEG Stands For Joint Photographic Expert Group Used For/Example Commonly used to save images. Advantage When saved to a file the quality is kept at a high resolution. Disadvantage If repeatedly opened the image will loose its quality.
TIFF Stands For Tagged Image File Format Used For/Example TIFF is used for desktop publishing Advantage TIFF’s can save multipage documents to a single file. Disadvantage Most online websites do not support TIFF.
GIF Stands For Graphics Interchange Format Used For/Example Used for short digital animations Advantage Very easy to access. Disadvantage Very low quality .
BMP Stands For Bitmap Image File Used For/Example Used to store bitmap digital images. Advantage No loss in compression. Disadvantage Large file size.

PSD Stands For Photoshop document Used For/Example Used to save work created within Photoshop Advantage Saves layers, Page formatting information and more. Disadvantage Large file size.
AI Stands For Adobe Illustrator Art Used For/Example Used for creating logos. Advantage Can be scaled big or small and not lose any quality. Disadvantage Newer versions of AI some times have compatibility issues
FLA Stands For Flash File Used For/Example Used to create animations and games. Advantage Can produce high quality files with a small file size Disadvantage Requires a lot of regular updates.
WMF Stands For Windows metafile Used For/Example Used for the creation of logos. Advantage Can be scaled in any size and not lose any compression. Disadvantage WMF is only formatted on windows platforms.

Compression Definition Compression is the change of a file size to ensure it keeps a good amount of information saved. Advantage An advantage of compression would be that it reduces the file size and the amount of memory used up from saving the file. Disadvantage The more compressed the image is the more pixelated it becomes.

Optimising Why would you optimise? Optimising is the best way to get a high quality image. How can you optimise? You can optimise by reducing the resolution of your image, Compressing the image or reducing the final size of the image. Advantage to optimising An advantage to optimising would be that they load quicker on the internet. Disadvantage to optimising The quality of the image may have reduced.
Storage
File Size What could affect a Working Scale (Photoshop) document file size? If a lot of components have gone into the Photoshop work. The file size will be greatly increased. How could you reduce the file size of a Working Scale document without affecting quality? Using a vector graphic you could easily alter the image without reducing the file size. What is an advantage of scaling up images before exporting? More detail can be added to the image before exporting. What is a disadvantage of scaling up images before exporting? A bigger file size will be needed after scaling up.
File Naming Conventions What naming conventions could you use when creating your video game assets? Giving your files individual names will allow you to later easily indentify different layers of work. Why is it a good idea to accurately name your assets? So you don’t accidently loose a file or use the wrong file.
Asset Management Why would you use folders when storing your assets? So you are able to categorise your work and then easily locate the file of your need. What folders would you create and what would you save within them Photoshop file would store individual images and layers for Photoshop. Images file would be used to store images I have saved from the internet and that will be used within my work.
