Digitalization, cybersecurity and the
technologies of the future in Czechia

Czechia is currently undergoing digital transformation of its governance,
tax, state and public services, the aim is to provide citizens with so called
“e-government” which will reduce costs and labor needs, most of the
private companies in Czechia are following the same idea
each citizen has can have his digital identity called “identita občana”
which allows him to login to to various public services via his bank identity
or other varification means such as mobile e-government key, NIA ID and
others, over 4,3 million citizens are using this digital identification so far
the digital services in Czechia work very well, the communication with the
government bodies and public services is easy and smooth, it is easy and
time savy to submit your tax reports, request for social benefits and other
documents and requests online from the comfort of your home
The digitalization in Czechia

the digitalization is becoming widespread in Czechia, most places accept
payment cards, Czechia has also one of the highest number of e-shops
compared to the number of its citizens (63 231 in 2023), the economy is
quickly moving to cashless state with ultra high-speed fiber internet
access of 1TB/second and 5G mobile network becoming a norm
the weakness is that Czechia has the most expensive mobile internet
providers in EU (compared to buying power of its citizens) which is
decreasing the access to full speed mobile internet to its citizens
it is possible to get a digital signature from the Czech post office (state
company) , which costs around 16 EUR per year, this signature allows you
to legally sign documents without the need to physically verify your
signature CzechPoint offices (typically post offices/town halls)
The digitalization in Czechia

The digitalization in Czechia
citizens and legal entities are pushed to use so called “datová schránka”
service which acts as encrypted digital post office box with identity
verification (banking identity or user name/password combination), this
service allows citizens and legal entities registered in Czechia to
communicate with various government offices and bodies without the
need to physically attend their office, there are over 3,65 million digital
p.o. boxes so far
it is possible to organize and sign valid digital petitions just by using the
citizens digital identity, the digital elections are not supported so far
there is ongoing digitalization in education, the curriculums recently
underwent many reforms to respond to the need of acknowledgement of
digital competencies as one of the key competencies for success of the
citizens in the future

the Czech state police conducted a research among 50 000 youth, the
findings were alarming, the research found the youth themselves were
often commiting cybercrime such as copyright infringement, sharing nude
pictures of other people without their permission or unauthorized access
of the emails, social accounts and other data of their peers
personal data protection remains quite a tabu topic in Czechia, with many
citizens sharing their private data freely online, rampant piracy, data and
identity theft and low awareness about these issues between general
public
cyber crimes are on the rise as well, targeting vulnerable groups such as
elderly people or kids, the most common cyber crimes are various
cryptocurrency based schemes, fake investments in stocks, ponzi-like
schemes and junk bonds
Cybersecurity in Czechia

Cybersecurity in Czechia
there is significant rise in cyber attacks following the Russian invasion of
Ukraine conducted by spreading fraudulent emails and various malware,
2/3 of the population sees cyber attacks as a real threat, while 7/10 didnt
change their digital habits and the level of security of their devices
data leaks and theft are unfortunately common, with the latest victim
being the University of Defense in Brno which was attacked by a hacker
group wanting 30 million EUR ransom for the stolen data
there is a national cybersecurity strategy developed by the national office
for cyber and informational security which emphasize the importance of
international cooperational on the European level in the need to tackle
cyber attacks from hostile regimes such as Russian Federation and the
need to educate the citizen about these topics

is an autonomous system for obtaining water by condensation from the air
the prototype was launched in 2019 in Sweihan desert in UAE
the system consists of two systems, one to extract water from the desert air and
the other to cultivate the desert into fertile soil
the unit works on the principle of adsorption and desorption of air humidity. Its
main component is a sorption unit with a desiccant exchanger, which enables
the dehumidification of air with a low water vapor content, which occurs in
desert conditions. The extracted water molecules accumulated in the desiccant
are then released at high temperature into a smaller amount of air to increase its
humidity. The high humidity from the air then condenses on the built-in cooler in
the unit as liquid water.

Czechia is a leader in development of nanofibers, in 2003 professor Oldřich
Jirsák developed a technology called “nanospider” which allows to produce
nanofibers with diameter from 20 to 500 nm on a large industrial scale
The nanofibers have wide range of use such as filters, membranes, protective
and outdoor clothing, healthcare and electronics

Nanofibers produced on a mass scale

It was founded by Oliver Dlouhý and Jozef Kepesi in 2011 as skypicker.com, it
acquired the name kiwi.com in 2016
In 2018 kiwi.com was titled “the 7th fastest growing company in EMEA”
The platform provides fare aggregator, metasearch engine and booking for
airlines tickets and ground transportation
The main shareholder is General Atlantic from USA, with the founders holding
minor stakes
The company is presently one of the five biggest online air ticket sellers in
Europe, with an annual turnover of approximately 1.1 billion EUR in 2018. The
company booked around 12,000 traveler itineraries daily and employed 2000
workers during 2019.
