What is Social Science? Are disciplines concerned with thw systematic study of social phenomena. Defined as the study of human society. It is the branch of science that deals with the institutions, functioning of human society, and with interpersonal relationships of individuals as members of society.

DISCIPLINES OF SOCIAL SCIENCE Anthropology (holistic discipline concerned with human, both past and present, Economics (government, cost production, un/employment, resources, labour , competition) Sociology (group of people, understand the way people relate to each other) Political science (politics, political behaviors, system of governance)

Geography – studies the land, the features, the inhabitant, and the phenomena of the earth. 2 BRANCHES 1. Physical (climate, soil, oceans, measurement of the earth) 2. Human (culture, transportation,health , military operation and cities) History (comes from the Greek word historia , story in English name, total of many things taken together and the spectrum of events of events in action following in order leading from the past to the present and into the future)

What is Applied Social Science? An integrated science cutting across and transcending various social science disciplines in addressing a wide range of issues in a contemporary, innovative and dynamic way. It aims at presenting a well-developed understanding of social research, skills and professional experience and critical thinking skills necessary to fully address social phenomena.

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIAL SCIENCES AND APPLIED SOCIAL SCIENCE Social Science are more specific and focused on a distinct facet of a social phenomenon while Applied Social Science attempts to focus on a distinct issue but use insights arising from the various social disciplines. When social science theories, concepts, methods, and findings gain application to problems identified in the wider society, then applied social science is achieved.
