DNA FINGERPRINTING Sindh Biotechnology Association Presented by: Fatimah
DNA fingerprinting, also called DNA typing, DNA profiling, genetic fingerprinting, genotyping, or identity testing, in genetics, method of isolating and identifying variable elements within the base-pair sequence of DNA. What is DNA Fingerprinting ?
Extracting the DNA from cells. Cutting up the DNA using an enzyme. Separating the DNA fragments on a gel. Transferring the DNA onto paper. Adding the radioactive probe. Setting up the X-ray film STEPS of DNA Fringerprinting
Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (R F LP) Short Tandem Repeat (STR) PROCESS :-
Disease Diagnosis and treatment . After the discovery of DNA, our ability to diagnose a disease early has improved immensely. Also, one's susceptibility to a specific disease can be accessed with the aid of DNA test. Paternity and legal impact : Through the assessment of DNA, the paternity of a child can be identified. Also, DNA tests are of immense importance in forensics and legal issues . Agriculture : Discovery of DNA has allowed the breeders to cultivate animals, with better resistance of disease. Also, it allowed the farmers to grow foods with more nutri tion . USES OF DNA Fingerprinting :-
DNA fingerprinting is considered to be a sure and best method to identify the real culprit involved in crimes, such as murder, rape etc. DNA fingerprinting is also used to find to the original background and historical migration of a particular racial group.
I t helps people know more about their family background. It helps solve crimes. It can help determine and even prevent illnesses It can point the finger at the wrong person. Benefits of DNA fingerprinting
