Kjeden ble grunnlagt i 1986 i Sandnes, der den også har hovedkontor. Navnet Dolly Dimple’s stammer fra
den amerikanske sirkusartisten Celesta Geyer, som på 1930- og 40-tallet opptrådte under navnet
«Dolly Dimple – the world’s most beautiful fat girl».
