Unit 7: Advanced Image Manipulation Techniques Lesson 3 Drawing and Painting with Image Editing Software

How are infographics made? Have you ever made one before? ‹#›

How can you make your own infographic? ‹#›

‹#› Identify the elements of design. Make a draft of a graph chart. Draw and paint the graph or chart using Adobe Photoshop. ‹#›

Illustrating Infographics In this activity, you are to make a graph or chart showing the number of hours it takes for you to do an activity on a Sunday. This activity will be done individually. Draw your graph or chart in the box provided to you. It is recommended that you assign a different color for each activity so that your reader can easily distinguish how much time you spend on a particular activity. ‹#›

What kind of graph or chart did you use? Why did you choose that kind of graph or chart? ‹#› Guide Questions

What colors did you use on your graph or chart? Why did you use these colors on your graph or chart? ‹#› Guide Questions

Do you think you have presented the data in a concise and attractive way? Why or why not? ‹#› Guide Questions

How can you improve your presentation of data? ‹#› Guide Questions

What are the elements of design ? ‹#›

Fundamentals of Design Line Shape Form Texture Color Space ‹#›

Line used in drawing, creating textures, patterns, and backgrounds. ‹#›

Shape A shape is a two-dimensional or three-dimensional object that has a defined or implied boundary. Shapes can be geometric or organic. ‹#› ‹#›

Form two-dimensional shapes are transformed into three-dimensional shapes an illusion that is created by shading or adding other visual aspects to a shape to indicate depth. ‹#›

Texture is the way a surface is perceived to feel or the way a surface feels. It has two types: tactile (can be touched) and visual (implied). ‹#› ‹#›

Color used to change the mood of the viewer and to tell a story. ‹#›

Space it creates groupings of elements it creates emphasis and hierarchy. it improves legibility. ‹#› ‹#›

How can you use the fundamentals of design to present your data in a concise and attractive way? ‹#›

Drawing and Painting in Adobe Photoshop ‹#›

Paint with Brush Tool or Pencil Tool Choose a foreground color. Select the brush tool or pencil tool. Select a preset brush. Set tool options in the options bar. ‹#›

Practice 1 Given your new knowledge about the fundamentals of design and how to use photoshop, draw and paint the chart or graph showing your time allotment for each activity on Sundays in Adobe Photoshop. Show your work to your teacher. Then, print your work and attach it in your portfolio. ‹#›

Practice 2 What elements did you use in making your graph or chart. Explain how you used each element in making your graph or chart. ‹#› Line Shape Form Texture Color Space

‹#› ‹#› ‹#› ‹#› ‹#› Identify what is being described by the following statements. This fundamental of design can go in different directions, have different density, and can be used to contain objects in a design. Miriam wants to create a poster with an autumn theme. This fundamental of design can help Miriam create a mood that is prevalent during autumn. This tool creates soft strokes when drawing or painting.

‹#› ‹#› ‹#› ‹#› ‹#› Identify what is being described by the following statements. This fundamental of design can emphasize objects by isolating them. It can also group objects by placing them next to each other. Jason wants to make his illustrations more realistic by adding depth to his objects. What fundamental of design must he use?

Take a look at the picture on the side. Using your knowledge about the fundamentals of design, try to correct the image to make it clearer and more attractive. Draw your corrected image on your paper. ‹#› ‹#› ‹#› ‹#› ‹#›

Lines, Space, and Shapes can be used to group objects together. Different lines, colors, and textures will have different effects on the feel of the design. Form adds depth to objects. The Brush Tool creates soft strokes. The Pencil Tool creates hard lines. ‹#›
