Key Words
•Towing
•Taxing
•Jacking
•Levelling
•Storage
•De-Icing & Anti-Icing

Towing
•Towing Small Aircraft
Push it rather than pulling it WHY?
Force applied as near to the end fittings,
Undercarriages
Do not exceed turning limits if rudder
peddle turning option is available. Ensure
Rudders are also not locked
Flat of the hands should be used
When using a tow tractor, Brake-man is a
must
Akwj D-MOT 4

Towing…
•Large Aircraft
Wing-Man, Chocks carriers are very important
Brakes-man, and ground Communicator are
important
Specially if loaded be cautious about where
CG is
Ensure safe brake pressure is built-up
At least one person in the cockpit
Tail-man and a supervisor soulld be availeble
If it’s night marshaling, sufficient illuminating
touches should be made available

…Contd

•In case if towing loads exceeds the
Nose-wheel limitations; use the Bridles
on to main=wheels
•What shall we do in the event of a tyre
deflation?
•What are the other unusual conditions
(In case if the three greens are not
illuminated)

jacking, chocking, securing,
and associated safety
precautions…

JACKING…
•First and foremost, should be an
acceptable environment (Into wind is
preferable)
•Can an Aircraft be side-lifted for single
wheel maintenance?..........
•CG location which is good to fly, may
not be good for jacking.. Be vigilant
(Add ballast if required)
•Operation of weight-on-wheel switches
may not be desirable
•Lowering the Jacks, is it just lowering ?
Akwj D-MOT 8

Practical awareness during
Jacking…..
•Lowering is done firmly.. Legs might not
compressed to the normal level…
•Can we jack with fueled
•Positioning Jacks… does it have any
concern
•Placing Trestles…
•Earthling….
Akwj D-MOT 9

Leveling…
•Must be leveled Laterally & longitudinally
•Required for rigging, weighing and
symmetrical checks
Spirit Level Balancing
Akwj D-MOT 10
So how can we level the
Aircraft ?

Examples for Storage…
•Engines fitted to Aircraft and removed
from aircraft
•Propellers fitted and removed
•Pumps, turbines etc..
•Wright a small paragraph about Storage
or preservation and basic procedures of
preserving fuel system
(Essay Question)

Storage…
•Regular inspections are important
•Equipment & material required
•Spray guns
•Oils and lubricants
•Blanks
